Optimistic Cynic |
This whole situation is truly a shame and a tragedy. I am surprised that nobody has yet pointed out that the political system that resulted in this untimely and unjust death is the same one that intentionally denied the victim an effective defense against those who would do him harm, and thereby did nothing to dissuade their outrageous behavior.

So, couple this new law requiring the disclosure of witnesses and their information with the new no bail laws and you have what? Criminals back out on the street immediately after arraignment and No crime ever gets prosecuted again in NY. From a Cloward/Piven point of view, it’s brilliant.

What about the slimeball defense lawyer who (apparently) ignored the judge's order to NOT reveal the witness's name to the defendant? His job is to try to get the defendant off no matter what the truth of the matter is. What better way to do that than to facilitate the elimination of prosecution witnesses?

The problem is that they've both denied having done so.
Hopefully, the murder of the witness will be solved and their denials will either be confirmed or refuted with actual evidence.

And who in the world would come forward to testify about that murder? Don't weep for the stupid, or you will be crying all day

I, personally, do not know any defense lawyers who would defy a judge’s order - BUT, that doesn’t mean their files were not broken into/they were extorted into telling/being sloppy.

Too bad there is no open season on this trash.

Crimes can be solved and successfully prosecuted without eyewitness testimony. Forensic computing and video surveillance are two possibilities. Eyewitnesses testimony will no doubt decrease precipitously in New York and not without good reason.

Given who their clients were, I bet they or their families were threatened with the same fate if they didn't give up the witness' name. Harshest Dream, Reality
