Do you just need to send the two pages of actual pertinents for the passport renewal (with check and old passport, of course), or do they want all the other fluff pages of the DS82 form as well?

The latter seems stupid, but this is the government we're talking about.

Just the pertinent pages.

And don't forget the photos.

If you go to the website, clicks you through step by step of what is needed. At the end can print it out. Sign add pics and sent it.

Remember still way backed up so check on the delay and you may want to pay the expedite fee.

I applied for new passport the end of last year, think it only took 3 weeks. My sister-in-law had similar experience renewing hers. Think they've gotten past the backlog.

Just the two pages. Make sure your photograph is "good". Mine was returned as I was too close to the camera. Second shot was accepted no problem.

I had to remove my glasses for my most recent passport, issued in Jan 2018.

A bit off topic - I had to remove my glasses for my Indiana driver's license photo. My license also says I am restricted to driving with glasses. So if I am driving, I will not be recognized by my license photo.

My last one was issued Mar 2019. It says "you cannot wear eyeglasses in your passport photo (unless you have a signed note from your doctor that you can include with your application). It's under Setp 4 under "How to renew," not in the top pictures on the page.

Funny you bring this up. The 2 application page are all that you send in. I have mine ready to renew. Crazy thing is they won't let you schedule an appointment for renewals, ONLY new passports. I'm going to take a chance and just mail it in.

I'm in no rush for the renewal. No travel planned til next March.

Mailed the stuff today. At least it should already be at the passport processing center this evening or tomorrow, since it's like 25 miles away.

Our city has some people that do passport applications/renewal. Most of it is going through the paperwork for accuracy, correlating the forms in order and providing an envelope. Needless to say they are very popular.

Once you get your passport please look into the Global Entry Program. You get expedited entry. When we returned from Europe last time there was a room full of people waiting to be processed. We went to a kiosk, scanned our card and our passport. The had clearance to skip the line and got our bags. Then chrome called us over, said “hello” and off we went.

I dropped a bill payment check at the local post office. A week and a half later it showed up at its destination, less than a mile from the post office.

Pretty sure you don't send the old passport in... I've got a collection of old expired ones...

Actually, you do send the old one in. They send it back with some sort of "expired" indicator. Two passports ago, they punched holes in it. Last time around, it was something else.

Just had mine done, took about 6 weeks not expedited as well.

Mrs. Sigmund and I have Global Entry, we breeze through Customs at Chicago. Our daughter does not, she's traveled with us a few times and generally gets thru Customs just as fast with this app:

https://mobilepassport.us/

We're quite happy with Global Entry (and the TSA Pre-Check bonus), but Mobile Passport appears to be a cheaper option. Less paperwork too. However, it may only work at 26 airports.

My buddy blew through customs using mobile passport faster than those waiting at the global entry line two weeks ago.

Yeah, global entry is great, and I have it, but Mobile Passport is an excellent free alternative.
