Almost all of our desktop computers are Dell Optiplex 3060

We order them with a platter drive & swap in a SSD when they arrive (cheaper/faster for us that way)

We get the micro size (about the size of a Nintendo Wii) or roughly 7x7x1.5 inch.

Price Range?
Does it need to do real time point of sale stuff?
Does it need to do real time purchase order stuff?
Does it need to do real time inventory stuff? (See above two points)
Will it act as a quasi server to other client computers?

I'm sure others will opine with their questions and recommendations. From the 100,000' view I have I would think an I7, 8-16gb RAM, 500 gb - 1tb disk drive dell laptop would do the job.

Intel NUC off Amazon.

Buy the processor flavor of your choice then buy memory, SSD, and install.

Will mount on back of your monitor.

Add Windows or Linux.

You can buy them preconfigured but they cost a little more than doing it yourself.

They have gone up in price lately. With all components plus OS you would be up around $800.

Example:

For about $300 less, this one does me just fine and has the aIRUS 655 graphics upgrade.

Without knowing your budget I’ll say Lenovo.

I'm looking at a Lenovo desktop from Costco right now for $999. 16GB RAM, 2TB HDD, no SSD, but it has 16GB Optane memory which caches files and makes the HDD feel faster.

Price is not a factor. Reliability and speed. Needs to come with installed SSD{not competent to do myself} Do not have to deal with EHR{electronic health record}, but work with some programs running basic software for insurance billing, collections. The basic Office software, certainly no more.

No inventory contol or anything. As noted earlier, no gaming or high end graphics needed. Currently have an Asus which I have had for ten years. Reliable, but really slowed lately. Would like no bloatware preinstalled. Looking at Office Depot and online so far.

M920. https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/d...-M920t/p/11TC1MDM92T

You can customize to your liking if you wish. Since you kept your last computer 10 years, I’d suggest getting as much power and memory as you can.

I suggest looking at the DELL OPTIPLEX series. SSD installed and reasonably priced.

I build my own. There are tons of YouTube videos and websites that will point you in the right direction. With this approach, you aren’t locked into proprietary components. A few years ago my motherboard gave it up and I simply replaced it.

I’m about ready to upgrade again. Since my box is nearly 10 years old, I’ll get a new case, power supply, MB, processor, Windows and 32 gig of memory. I’ll use my existing HDDs and existing SSD. All of my peripherals are good so this should run about $600. This should rival a $1,000 system.

Allow me to suggest going to (shudder) Best Buy and look at the curved monitors. I went with a Dell 27 inch flat monitor as i couldn't justify the added cost.

Hard to beat the HP all-in-one models. Not sure of a specific one - I can look at some of the basic "office" PC's at work tomorrow.

Don't get an All-In-One. Crappy laptop grade parts shoved into a tiny space to overheat.

Get a business grade desktop like a Dell Optiplex or Vostro.

Get something in either a slim tower or mid tower format. You want something with plenty of space to move air across your cpu, ram sticks and ssd.

Get something with lots of ram, like 16gb or more, an SSD, and set aside money for a external USB drive for backups.

Get two monitors. For productivity, two or more monitors is better than one large one. I've done both. Multi monitor is the way to go.

I work for a company that sells a shit-load of client computers for public safety use. We've been using HP z series computers for years because of their reliability.

It doesn't have an SSD for the system drive, only has 8gb of ram, and has a discrete video card for an office application that didn't need one.

I worked for Intel for 18 years.

this desktop will more than fit your needs.

HP Pro Desktop G5 600 $879
- Windows 10 Pro 64
- 16 GB memory with room to add a lot more
- 256 GB SSD
- Intel Core i5 processor
- Intel graphics (not an unneeded card)

- You'll need to buy MS Office if you don't have a copy already.

- I would personally go for a laptop having used them exclusively for the last 18 years. However, you may get more mileage out of a desktop.
