I think she bought the house prior to any serious dating of this man. They have been dating for 4 or 5 yrs but have now lived together about 2 yrs.
He is Mexican, has been here for several years. Also has 3 daughters that are in Mexico that he sends money to.
He speaks very poor English, very soft spoken. I can hardly understand him.
Adults have been known to choose unwisely from time to time. In this case, the adult is your daughter. The key is, ADULT. You may offer suggestions, but not commands. Likely to be married one way or another. Your walking her down the isle is nothing more than the love of a father trying to make his daughter happy. In a nutshell, all it really is.
Going forward, it sounds like she will be the bigger breadwinner. He on the other hand can not really get too far. He also probably would not leave the US to get the green card first cause he is supporting his kids (however old they are). They need the money so he stays. Precarious position he is in, and by extension your daughter will be in.
I would offer help to gain legal status in US starting NOW, and walk her down the isle.
Good luck to you and your daughter on whatever you decide.
I should be tall and rich too; That ain't gonna happen either October 10, 2017, 07:43 AM
Sig209I wish you the best. Tough situation.
But sadly I predict it won't end well.

reloader-1As someone who is younger, and dumber, here's my take:
The woman in question is 46, which means that this "marriage" will most likely result in no children. She's pretty close to menopause anyway, and would be a fairly high risk pregnancy in any case.
That being said, this is then a formalizing of the shacking up arrangement they currently have. I think almost everyone is approaching this from the standpoint of a 20-something girl getting married to an illegal, with the attendant childbearing/family implications. That is almost certainly not the case here.
I'd phrase the OP's question slightly differently, with age exaggerated for emphasis: "My 70 year old daughter wants to marry an illegal alien for her second marriage, should I walk her down the aisle?"
I'm sure that would change the answers substantially.

Of course it would. His immigration status has nothing to do with it.
Why do people speculate on specialized legal matters when they know they don't really know anything about them?

The problem isn't what you know, it's what you know that isn't so.
