I just moved from an iPhone 7+ to an iPhone 14+. I didn't want to move yet but the 7+ was noticeably slowing down and hiccupping.

The 7+ has the thumb print button and I double click on that to toggle between apps I have open. Useful when I need to copy a password from my password manager and paste it to log in. I also use that to close apps that I have open by swiping up. How do I do that with iPhones without the button?

A lot of the apps that I used to be able to log-in with a thumbprint now require I have to log in each time as they seem to not be set up for face id (which I didn't want to enable but there is no other choice).

Try swiping from the lower left corner diagonally right without lifting your finger. This should bring up a scrolling gallery of recently opened apps. You should be able to figure it out from there.

Swipe straight up from the bottom of the screen, stopping halfway up in the middle of the screen and let go and that will open what they call the app switcher you are looking for.

I didn't like the idea of the face id, but after switching it's seamless, faster and better, suggest you go ahead and use it and you won't want to go back to the button

Making the same switch in a few weeks. This is very useful.

You guys have made my day. Halfway swiping from the bottom left / right corners and bottom center brings up the open apps. Then swiping halfway from top right corner brings out the functionality that I thought I lost - those widgets like calculator and other stuff. Swiping half way from the top left brings the wallpaper.

I’ll see if the home button can bring up the thumb print log in to apps that don’t use Face ID to log in.

That is not the case at all! I absolutely hate FaceID was so glad when they brought back the SE. I am so glad to have the home button/thumbprint back.

I'm sure you have your reasons, but I think Apple's face ID is the best thing going for security recognition. It works amazingly fast even in complete darkness and at angles and someone else's face isn't going to work. I'd rather go back to entering my PIN for access than going back to the finger print ID which I always had issues with.

Shake your head violently back-and-forth if they try to do that to you… You may have to keep it up a while lol

The cops are gonna get your fingerprints pretty soon anyways.

I originally did not like the idea of losing the home button when I upgraded a few years back, but within 15 minutes or so with the new one, I didn't even miss it anymore. My wife's still had the home button and it felt crude and clunky compared to just swiping up.

Well, stop hanging out in bad areas and don't have anything incriminating on your phone, that means, stop watching HD Porn on that new 14's super clear screen!

If you have a reason to be in contact with the law and they would scan your face for access without a warrant then they would use your thumb, problem isn't the method of access it's the person violating your rights.

To each their own, I was speaking for myself, felt the same way as Rey and you initially, but after using it, wouldn't go back to the thumb, again, just speaking about my preference.

Just suggesting Rey test the Face ID, see if it works and he can live with it, as long as he can stay away from the AZ PD he should be good to go ,

Rey, try it you might like it, and if you don't like it like Black then simply go back into settings and turn it off... Its not a forever option....

The phone works fine if you don't enable Face ID. Just enter your code on the keypad.

I just got my iPhone 14 Pro. This is my third phone with face recognition. I want to get my wife a new mini with face recognition; she likes her old SE.
It's just a matter of getting accustomed to it, then it is at least as convenient.
The advantages of the newer phones is huge.
I note significant improvement in the function of my 14 over the previous 12. I got it mostly because of improved photo functions.

Flawless and WAY more convenient now that almost every app has incorporated this IMHO. I'll take the increased real estate over the security of not having to hide my face while trafficking coke.

2 quick ways to disallow Face ID and require PIN to unlock:

Either Power off the phone - on restart it requires the PIN to open

or

Hold power button down on right and then press and hold either the volume up or down button until the power off screen comes up. You can hit cancel at that point and it will disable Face ID and require the PIN.

I don't use the thumb print or facial recognition. I use a 6 digit passcode and I've set it up where if you enter the wrong passcode 10 times in a row, the phone will wipe itself completely of any and all personal data.

So, a million possible passcodes and 10 tries to get it right.

Not sure how you find FaceID to be faster?
My Thumbprint phone is open and unlocked even before it is out of my pocket.
Living with a body camera strapped to your chest there is no way to access your phone without it coming in view of the camera.
If the phone is mounted on the dash of my truck I can’t open it.
Different strokes for different folks but I have no use for FaceID.

I also dislike huge screens on phones.

One, I wonder how often that has actually happened. Two, they can take your finger and put it on the reader. Same-o-same-o.
