I stumbled onto these guys a few months back. A little heavier than the bands featured in the thread so far, but worth checking out if you're digging into current Japanese rock.

I am too lazy and bourboned-up to have watched all of the videos, so maybe this is not leading edge weirdness. Anyways, here is Nyango and friends. The actual music starts five minutes in. There is also a band that does covers of the Shaggs but that is now passe weirdness no doubt.
