The Return of the Burnt Potato Chip!
Back in the day whenever you would dump a bag of Lay's potato chips in a bowl there would always be a handful of burnt chips. Those burnt ones were usually quickly scarfed up in short order. Then something to do with the sugars in potato's the burnt ones were sort of bred away with. Well now Better Made has come out with a bag of chips called Rainbow Old Fashion Dark that is all burnt chips. They are amazing if you like the burnt chip taste, I've become slightly addicted to them now. I get'em at my local meijer store, plan on stocking up in case they are a limited time offering.

Sounds good to me – I like ‘em dark! I’ll look for those – thanks for the heads-up.

Serious about crackers.

The Rainbow chips sound kind of like the Cape Cod Russet chips, which are my favorite! I'd love to try the Rainbow.

Sounds like like the "extra toasty" cheez-its that they came out with. Cooked a little bit longer to get that bit of burnt flavor to them.

Those weren't burnt, they were the rotten parts. Disgusting

Agent Timothy McGee on NCIS once related to Abby that he'd had a job once as a burnt chip remover at a potato chip factory. I don't like the burnt chips, myself. I suspect that optically-driven air jets do the removal now.

The OP might want to look out for the Utz "Russet Special Dark" recipe. These are occasionally to be found in my local Safeway's chip aisle, and have that special over-roasted goodness he seems to crave.

I always remember Wise chips having a more burned taste than Lays.

The Starbucks of potato chips!

You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless.

Absolutely. And you had to be careful, because they went rancid kinda fast.

They actually have on the potato chip line a sensor that detects burnt chips. The chips all fly by on a conveyor and then jump over a gap. The sensor detects a dark chip and a jet of air shoots it down the gap while the others fly on by. That's how one chip maker used to keep the bags burn free
