Dwayne Haskins dead

Followed his career at tOSU; enjoyed watching him. I’m very surprised by this. Apparently he was trying to cross an interstate on foot at 0630 hrs. WTF?

Those involved are pretty tight-lipped…be curious to see why he was on foot crossing a freeway.

I heard the news too. Even without him being a quarterback, it's still a strange story.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I know we aren't supposed to say bad things about people after they've died, but this dude was a baby. He refused to study the playbook, he was often late, he was lazy, he thought he was better than working hard. He has great talent, but refused to refine and hone his skills.

The fact he was walking/jogging/doing whatever on the side of the road in the early morning hours shows his lack of common sense. Hopefully he saved some of his money so that his wife and family are taken care of for life.

Such a waste of talent. There are probably only 50 people on this whole planet with the talent he had and we are now down one.

I can’t stand driving on I-95 or 595 or any of those roads down there. Insanity at 80 mph. I always say there’s no respect for life on I-95.

I can’t imagine what this young man was doing. I don’t like driving on 95 let alone attempting to cross it.

Pretty much nailed it there.
Loved watching him play at Ohio State but when he got drafted I was just thinking he's another OSU QB that won't make it.
We often forget that these guys coming out of college to the NFL are basically kids. Their life experiences are college life. Top tier ones are coddled and given everything. Then you actually have to work in the NFL. He did that poorly.
Not sure what he was going to contribute to the Steelers and now no one will know.

And Gil is 100% correct. To bad everyone has feels now and can't read anything without feeling offended.
Did he commit suicide? Who knows but if you're that weak minded to do it, you probably did society a favor.

Gil may be right but, he didn't need to say it, rather classless and inappropriate.

For a lot of these collegiate athletes, the highpoint of their lives is high school & college, everything else goes downhill. Their egos have been pumped up repeatedly, there's a constant string of 'friends' willing to pal-around and hang-on, hoping you strike it big and they can grift-off your fortune. Haskins is likely among many who was full of regret and has little life-skills; has a hard time understanding the reality in the world he was living. The HBO show Ballers showed some of this but, wasn't as vivid as it could've been.

Yes you apparently know how to read. I said can’t imagine. I meant can’t imagine. Car trouble means you walk to the next off ramp or use your fucking phone to call for aid. If you are fucking dumb enough to try crossing I95 (I595 in this case) I can’t imagine how fucking dumb you must be.

I595 down in Lauderdale is a 4 lane freeway each way with express lanes in the center. That’s like 10 lanes of “hope I don’t get smooshed”. This ain’t a game of Frogger. Don’t cross interstates on foot is solid advice.

I listened to this today, pretty bizarre behavior on Haskins part.
https://www.nbcmiami.com/news/...9ZjKIx8cWjIC_4rS5DIg

Stanley says he was on the way home after leaving the airport, and heading towards the off-ramp to I-95 North when he noticed vehicles veering into his lane.

“And what I noticed was a Mack truck, or a big tractor-trailer, with also another vehicle that started moving a little bit to the left,” said Stanley. “I was in the left lane and then there was the right lane. And then I noticed an individual there starting to make their way onto the road."

Stanley says he saw the man's arms raised up a little bit as he appeared to be drifting into the major highway.

“He was about halfway, to a quarter way in the right lane already onto the highway and I was already concerned that somebody was going to strike him right there at that moment," he said.

Local
Stanley says he was so concerned that he dialed 911 and shared a screenshot of his call log with NBC 6 with a call to 911 at 6:31 a.m. — six minutes before FHP says the crash was reported at 6:37 a.m.
Stanley says he did not notice a vehicle along I-595 Westbound that may have belonged to Haskins.

“I did not see any vehicle nearby,” said Stanley. “I was more concerned with him because he was already making his way onto the road system."

NBC 6 Reporter Ryan Nelson asked Stanley if there were any conclusions he could draw about what the person he believes to be Haskins was attempting to do along I-595.

"I could not,” said Stanley. “That's why it's just very disturbing. I just didn't understand the situation.”

FHP says the investigation into the crash is ongoing.

totally bizarre. and tragic. I'd heard he ran out of gas. Was that an incorrect early report?

Until an official report is released, if ever, who knows.
The way its sounding so far, I'm inclined to say he committed suicide by walking into traffic.

I’m sorry. I wasn’t singling you out, rather all the posts including yours claiming to not be able to fathom why he trying to get across the road. Why does it have to be something other than the obvious and simple answer? My understanding is he was hit at the I95/595 interchange where there isn’t an exit to surface streets.

Stay with the car may or may not work. A month ago, I had car trouble on US1 at mile marker 118 or so. My wife and I both spent and hour and a half on our cell phones trying to get help. Three officers drove by and nada. Fortunately, the truck started and we didn’t have to find out how long the waiting game was going to be.

About three months on US41, I drove over a bridge two minutes before a 50 something construction worker tried to cross over US41 rather than take the walkway under the bridge. An 18 year slammed into and killed the construction worker. This wasn’t a roadway worker, but a guy working on a condo project next to 41. The road is 3 lanes in each direction separated by a curved grass median. I didn’t spend a lot of time wondering WTF the worker was thinking or why he tried to cross the road. The simple, obvious answer: he was trying to get to work was good enough.

One last story. I walked in front of a moving bus when I lived in Chicago. I was thinking I had a walk signal, so I walked across Michigan Ave. I heard people screaming and that’s when I noticed the bus had run it’s red light and passed behind me. It’s a good thing I walk fast otherwise people would be left wondering what the heck I was thinking.
