Blew my mind when I discovered this stuff. Ever the single malt snob, I was taken back. No clue Japan even made whiskey. After this I learned a lot about their culture. They like the best of everything. And they go hard. Like 7 days a week. High rates of Gout over there. So much they studied it to see how much they could drink without getting it. Big Grin

I digress. Dam good whiskey. Dam good.

He did well. A lot of Scotch aficionados view this very favorably. I’ve had it and think it’s good, it’s not my favorite but it’s a very good whiskey. Happy Birthday!

Thanks, my birthday is the day before Thanksgiving this year, but his was Friday. I took us out to a really good Japanese Steakhouse and he gave it to me. ON HIS BIRTHDAY

I give him something amazing every year and he just wanted to say thanks for being a good surrogate father figure. I am very good to his mother and he appreciates that.

I have taught him to cook, work on his truck, teaching him to be independent. Made him go on his own to get his glasses with the money he earned after I bought his first pair years ago, he went and got his own tires with my advice so he will know what to do next time, handles his insurance and tag, he will be buying the engine for the truck this spring as it has 300k on it and now weak on a cylinder, most everything his father was supposed to teach him.

I have given him an Alienware laptop, my pickup truck, a .22 rifle, a .410 shotgun and this year will be his first handgun. He just has to pick one out or I will go buy whatever he wants.

He said not to get it until his CC permit comes back.

I am a bourbon guy and generally don’t care for blended whiskey but Hibiki is amazing stuff. The best word I can use to describe it is pleasant, it just is such a pleasant drinking experience. Good stuff. Enjoy. Happy Bday.

From what I understand Japan has bought the market for whisky/ scotch

Once the Japanese got a taste for scotch and bourbon they set out to make some of the best. As with most things they’re passionate about, they did a damn fine job. I’ve liked every Japanese whisky I’ve tried. He gave you a quality bottle there. Enjoy!

OK, we had a sip of it.

I got smokey notes along with oaken barrel. Very clean with no aftertaste.

Light years better than that Jackoff Daniels garbage that tastes like pine tar my Nephew in law loves so much or Purple Pot Bag.

I want to pour some over ice cream.

Costco carries the Toki version of their whiskey. It is more economical. Would be interesting to see how you think that version compares to your usual fare.

As for your comment on about pouring over ice cream - try that with Grand Marnier. In fact, try it in the three states - over ice cream, room temperature, and heated in a microwave for about 12-14 seconds. One word of warning - don't try to inhale a big amount of the bouquet after heating it - the smell can be quite potent.

I keep Grand Marnier around for when I have a cold - can't take a full dose of Nyquil, so take about 1/2 to 2/3 of a dose, then a snifter of Grand Marnier heated up before I go to bed. Tastes MUCH better, and really works to soothe the throat.
