There is a pinball museum downtown, with playable machines. Smile
Link: Asheville Pinball Museum

Some amazing sweet shops, also. Our favorite is The Chocolate Fetish

She can sing along with the homeless hippies in the city square. If you have plans for good eats I like 12 bones BBQ and a farm to table place called Home Grown.

I'm going there for our anniversary in a couple weeks. What about for adults? Not too interested in paying to go through the Biltmore.

its worth it if you haven't been before. the grounds and gardens and vineyards alone are worth it, imo.

Unfortunately not on a Wednesday but at the North Carolina Arboretum, there is a G Scale outdoor model railroad that runs on weekends (noon to 4 pm). An eight year old kid would love that.

The Pinball Museum is a great idea. There is also the Science Museum, but I have no first hand experience: http://ashevillescience.org/

For candy I like Rocket Fizz, plenty of stuff to get nostalgic about: http://rocketfizz.com/location...t-fizz-asheville-nc/

WNC Nature Center is good for an hour or two: http://www.wncnaturecenter.com/

Here is my short list for anyone that has a couple days in the area. A quick Google search will get you details, in no particular order:

-Downtown shops, food, and buskers (check out the old Woolworth if you want local art)
-Biltmore Estate (do self-guided audio house tour, walk the Gardens, wine tasting)
-River Arts District (Art stuff, eat at 12 Bones)
-Lake Lure boat tour, check out the visitor center for a little history
-Chimney Rock Park (on the way to Lake Lure)
-LaZoom Comedy bus tour around Asheville (quirky like Asheville, good way to get some history/stories, you can bring alcohol onboard!)
-UNC Arboretum (gardens and hiking)
-Brewery tours (too many to name, Sierra Nevada the biggest)
-Folk Art center on the Blue Ridge Parkway (if you like folk art)
-Basilica of Saint Lawrence
-Great Smokey Mountain Railroad
-Whitewater rafting through Nantahala Outdoor Center
-Asheville Tourists game (Class A, Rockies farm club)
-Navitat (ziplining)
-Mt Mitchell or Grandfather Mountain
-UNC Botanical Gardens
-Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute
-Horseback riding (Sandy Bottom Trail Rides)
-DuPont State Forest (hike the falls filmed in Hunger Games)

Resources:

https://www.ashevillemusicguide.com/shows
http://theorangepeel.net/events/

The Food options are endless. Plan ahead for dinner reservations. Some of my favorites downtown are Chestnut, Curate, Tupelo Honey, Red Ginger, Bouchon, White Duck Taco....

The Grovewood Car Museum at the Grove Park Inn is cool. Lots of old classic cars. Other artsy stuff and a cool view from the top of the mountain.
