I’m 35 and got my first white hairs about five years ago... in my beard. Since then, they’ve gone from a number to a percentage of the whole, mostly on my chin but now going to both sides and into my mustache. I’m not going to dye or color anything, not taking rogaine for the hair receding on top. Just gonna let it happen. It eased off a bit a year ago when I changed jobs, and realized the stress of the old job had been contributing to it when a noticeable number of hairs started to change from white back to black. At the current rate, I’ll probably have full white patches by the time I’m 40. Grecian formula uses lead acetate and I’m not keen on applying lead to areas around my mouth. If you didn’t know, now you now. You guys who haven’t made it past the itching phase need to try using conditioner on your beard. It’ll soften up the hair enough that it’s not murderous (if it works for my coarse, curly beard hair, it will work for you). Beard oil also helps a lot. A reasonable amount, properly applied, makes a huge difference. ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”

Staring back from the abyss |
I started my beard years two days before I got out of the Army. I avoided my 1SGT for those last two days because the c@cksucker would have made me shave like he frequently did...twice a day. Didn't drag a razor across my face for 25 years and then only did it once...just to see. Never again. Mine started going grey in the chin at about 25ish. Since then, about 90% of it is grey. But, I keep it short nowadays so it's not so bad. I like to think it makes me look more distinguished. I've worn a beard and mustache for years and they are getting quite gray. So it goes. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

I had a full, bright red beard for years. I started cutting out the parts that were white, it never went gray. I now have a full face of skin.

I never tried to grow out a beard. After high school I joined the Navy so that had a lot to do with it. But last year I decided to give it a try, expecting it to come in patchy and thin. I would have shaved it off if so. It came in nice and thick...was a total success and got so many compliments on it. I ended up shaving it all off in June when it really started to heat up. I just shaved for the last time this winter the other day....gonna grow it out again. Now I just have to get better about trimming it so it stays looking good all the time. There were times last winter that I’d screw up one section and then I’d have to compensate for it.

I always had that same problem, but then decided to try a stubble trimmer. Picked up a Norelco beard trimmer 3500 Some of the best $ I've ever spent. Just set the dial to the length you desire, from 0.5mm to 10mm and trim away. “I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. The only good thing to have come from spending 27 AUG to 20 SEPT in a coma and not getting a chance to shave until 05 OCT was I grew a beard without giving up on it. I now sport a goatee along with my adult life-long mustache. The chin part is gray as all get out, the 'stache less so, and my uber blonde hair remains bright and gray hair free.
