ZFG. They ran me out of there letting millennials use their phones the entire film. Instead of bouncing them, they'd get a chit chat and that was it. 2 years straight, every film I went to a film phones. I don't give a damn if they shut everyone of them down. I have my own at home now. They did themselves in. Why would anyone want to pay $12, $17, or $18 for a film when youngsters are tolerated with their phones on the whole time. Shit I want people doing this while driving arrested. Yet society and corps tolerate it because they are scared of the twattersphere. Cool, go woke then go broke then you mother fuckers.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

I have been to the Castro Theater in SF a number of times, one of the last old Art Deco movie palaces in existence. I'm friends with their former tech director and knew a little about their finances decades ago. Operating that theater was by very slim margins, they don't have the financial backing of a movie studio. I imagine they are closed due to the virus, and I cannot see how they can stay in business, if they even are.

we have a similar Theater here in RVA,

The Byrd , currently closed due to the Rona,

IIRC is as the place the wife and I saw our last movie (Pre Rona)

the are a second run, artsy film, etc etc place

we saw an anniversary showing of Alien there,

year before that we saw Halloween

Castro Theater in SF

Wife and I who was in GF mode at that time went to see CATS at the Castro, it's a fantastic venue, the play however sucked.

Her brother and his other bought us tickets, luckily were were not sitting together, so we snuck out early, agreed it sucked and we'd rather have drinks at a bar...

I could care less if movie theaters become a thing of the past. It would certainly cut into the revenues of the Hollywood elite - and that is fine by me.

With modern home entertainment systems and available premium movie offerings - who needs to spend $100 taking the family to see a movie?

The movie theater business is in big trouble and might turn into boutique types of places.

Restaurants, please. I see people eating at picnic tables in the parking lot of most restaurants. You might lose a few that were not established or that have very high overhead but they will be replaced in short order. People will just about eat anything as long as they don’t have to cook and do the cleanup.

I didn't see anything in there about gender fluid, or is that covered in LGBTQ+?

It's been many years since I was in a Regal Theater. My 25 year old son was 13 or 14. Even back then their concession priced were obscene. I remember ordering two large Cokes and a large popcorn. $25.00.

I asked, "Did you say $25?"

"Yes."

"$25?"

"Yes, but you get free refills."

"The cup is a bucket, I don't want any refills."

"Well, you get that with larges."

"Yeah, but $25? You realize that's a quarter of a hundred dollars?"

All the while my son was saying, "Dad, just pay it."

Haven't been back to a Regal since. Not only were they overpriced, they were dirty.

My wife does too. I use the Alton Brown method except I use this instead of salt in coconut oil right before dumping the kernels in. Basically about a cup of popcorn (heaping) to approx 1/3 cup of coconut oil.
Close as hell to movie popcorn.

There were some movies I was looking forward to. Hollywood shelved them until the summer of 2021 because of covid. Oh well. If theaters go bust because Hollywood elites can't rake in every expected penny then so be it. With all of their virtue signaling one would think that they could put movies out on demand and still make money while entertaining the millions of Americans how were grounded because of Covid. Fuck em...

I went to see Tenet last night. Three people in an XD theater. They are cutting a break on the popcorn/soda. A large popcorn and coke usually costs around $12. It's down to just over $7 right now. No refills.

Empty theater was ungodly loud. I know it's a Christopher Nolen movie, but damn. Without any people in there to absorb some of it my ears are shaking.

I've been a Cinemark member since they started it. We go to a lot of movies. I don't want to see them close.

If they changed their method of operation and offered a solid week of nothing but John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies I do believe I'd be 1st in line.

Time for a popcorn refill.

The last movie I saw in a theater was Batman VS. Superman. It was 100 minutes of sheer agony. Besides the fact that I hate superhero movies, people were rude, noisy, and their cell phones never shut off.

I've never even bothered taking my kids to the movies in their entire lives because it's so expensive. When I was a kid, we could go as an entire family of five to a movie, buy a large popcorn, and a large drink, for $40.00.

If I wanted to go to a movie, I'd find a place like the Alamo Drafthouse. I went to the Alamo Drafthouse in San Antonio with a coworker back in 2011 and that was a good experience. Still expensive, but at least there they throw out miscreants.

My favorite candy bar was PB Max. It was a great candy bar but alas is no more. M&M Mars got rid of it even though sales were great. They did so because the family that owns the company doesn't like peanut butter. They also refuse to sell the rights to the PB Max because peanut butter. Stupidity killed my favorite candy bar.

I used to get myself to sleep at nights by trying to count the movies I had seen in the theater. The theater experience used to be exciting and pleasant. That went away. The costs went up, decorum was no longer expected, and the movies themselves became more about makin' dat dollah than making a good movie. I feel bad for the average joes, the gaffers and the key grips and such as well as the small time theater owners. This will kill them, but the stupidity crept in long ago and only got worse. Convenience wasn't the only reason folks would rather buy, rent, or stream.

In my mind, PB Max and the Theater experience walked off into the sunset long ago, driven away by stupidity.

bottom line is that Hollywood hasn't made a really decent movie in 20 years that is enjoyable to watch on the big screen let alone on the small screen

they have no original ideas, and have resorted to doing remakes, or worse yet, beat us over the head with SJW crap

perhaps if they thought that perhaps making something entertaining that simply told a good story that was worth watching, they might have a future

I remember being a theater hound when I was a kid - $2 movies on Saturdays when we could walk to a theater and get popcorn and soda for $2

good entertainment

last two movies I saw in the theaters were Out of Africa and Titanic

since then just about everything has left me feeling cheated

The Studios postponing the blockbuster movies is maybe a little shortsighted. They aren't going to make much now, but there aren't going to be any theaters left if they don't release any movies.

I am down to 1 or 2 movies a year the last 5 years.

I have a few SIGs.

[Rant avoided] Agree with Para on each item he listed.

I'm down to about one movie out every decade or 2.

Horrid waste of time/money/otherwise good spirits.
