A few years back, I built a version of this as a five target mover. It was a lot of fun and was used for a few matches. It has five 8" knock off plates which changes things even more than usual. It's biggest drawback was it's reset time. One person needed to hold it still while the other reset the knock offs.

Regarding the metronome sychronicity, it is noteworthy that if we were standing beside the metronomes on the white surface, we could not imagine how they slowly acted in unison at the same time and frequency. But, standing at another point, we could easily see how they become synchronized with the oscillating base table.

I wonder if not having the correct frame of reference creates many mysteries.

That's pretty cool. Physics is an awesome field of study.
