to date, when i use google maps inside a browser like brave, i can use my touch screen and zoom the map in/out using 2 fingers, same as iphone. the is smooth and continuous.

i just did something while trying to zoom in and the map went crazy. it zoomed in all they way i think - couldn't see anything on the map. zoomed out and things started to appear again.

anyway, now when i use two fingers to zoom in/out, it does so stepwise, like every 10x or something. it's not smooth anymore. if i go to another tab like for sigforum, it zooms smoothly. if i open google maps in firefox, it zoom smoothly.

how do i get it to zoom smoothly again in brave?

I don't have a touch screen, just a 24" monitor.
That said I use the CNTL± function to zoom in and out. Brave provides a "magnifying glass" icon to the far right of the address bar. When your cursor touches it expands showing the percentage change in steps and providing a reset button.

Are you seeing that at all?

yea, nice feature. i can see that. but the smooth zooming still doesn't work. since this is limited to brave and not on firefox, i think it's wihin brave/maps on brave. since i can smooth zoom sf, seems like something has changed that affects only maps in brave. but i have no idea what changed, how it changed and how to change it back. grrrr....

Is your Brave version 1.23.71? If not maybe updating to the most current will resolve this. Don't know what else to suggest.

When something like this happens, I have a series of things that I try in order. Simplest ones first, if the problem is not cured I move on to the next step:
  • Close the app, then re-start it.

  • Check "preferences" and / or "settings."

  • Close the app, re-boot the computer, then re-try the app.

  • Delete the app then download it again.

  • Hunt for files in places like "Library" and "Application Support" (I use Mac OS, I assume that Windows has something similar). These files can usually be opened with a simple text editor. Sometimes the problem is found easily, other times I just delete these files. Any that are necessary are re-created behind the scenes when the app is re-started, or worst case, when the app is deleted and downloaded again.
If none of the above work, I might ssk about it on SIGforum. Wink

Have you tried holding down the Option/Alt key while scrolling the mouse wheel? This works for me in Brave Version 1.21.74 Chromium: 89.0.4389.72 (Official Build) (x86_64) on macOS High Sierra.

problem i'm having is w/ the touchscreen. no mouse. the control =/- functions but that's for the entire screen. I'm talking about only zooming in/out of maps in the browser window.

it's something w/in brave or maps in brave (that wasn't there before yesterday evening). behavior works as expected with maps in firefox (on same computer). Works like on smartphones.

only maps in brave is now zooming in steps rather than continusouly.

thanks - tried all except for delete and re-install brave. installing brave is a pain - takes some effort to configure properly. so trying to avoid if i can.

This is maddening. I've even uninstalled / reinstalled.

One minute it's working fine. Then it goes crazy and after recovering it behaves like this. WTF.

I can get it to go crazy again (when I zoom out too fast suddenly it zooms in to some random location all the way - looks like a blank screen). But can't get it to reset. Again, on the same computer, it works fine in Firefox.

Maybe it's just an incompatibility. I have found the occasional app that works fine with some browsers, and not with others. Yeah, this stuff should all be coded with attention paid to "standards," but sometimes either the app or the browser does not handle things correctly.

Keep in mind that that the zooming was smooth and continuous one minute. Then something happened and the next minute the zooming became stepwise (zoom in/out in something like 10x increments).

Brave may have a bug, report it to them, with the link above.

Could be a bug that is dependent on sequence of events. I've seen those.
