just canceled its February International Ball at Mar-A-Lago. They were concerned about causing "pain" to its staff and supporters.

Can you guess who it might be? I'll bet you can. (HINT: ARC)

They will never get another red cent from me.

I haven't given those pricks a cent in years. Like, 30+ years.

They have one of the worst donation:admin ratios there is.

The America red Cross has been known to be a scam for a long time. While they may do some "good stuff" they are also a cash cow for socialite elitists who serve figurehead positions as "regional directors" for salaries of over half a million per year.

OK...I don't expect them to be Buddhist monks, but over $500,000 ?!?! They couldn't get anyone to do it for $150,000 ??!

Compare to areal charity: the Salvation Army

For a relief charity, the Salvation Army gets a lot more done with a lot less money. Saw that in Biloxi after Katrina.

Little know fact. The blood you donate to Red Cross gets sold by them to hospitals.

Some are fine with this as it generates funds for Red Cross to operate and provide emergency support services, while others are repulsed by the fact that their donated blood is used to make money for Red Cross.

Red Cross to Charge More for Blood
By ANJETTA MCQUEEN

Washington, May 23

The nation's hospitals will pay more for blood collected by the American Red Cross, which plans to raise its prices by July to help pay off debts.

Red Cross officials said today that they could not say how much the price would increase nationally.

"Safety and availability is our No. 1 priority," said Jacquelyn Fredrick, who oversees collections and distribution for the Red Cross. "We want to be able to ensure tomorrow's blood supply by investing in today's."

'Critical Blood Shortages'

The Red Cross, which supplies about half of the nation's donor supply, is telling hospitals of its plans to raise the cost of a pint of blood. National officials say the prices are being determined by local blood centers.

Indiana hospitals, for example, have already learned their prices are rising 10 percent to 35 percent.

The typical pint of red blood cell product now costs $130 to $150.

Fredrick does not expect the price increase to affect hospitals' ability to provide blood to patients this summer, but she said, "there are still critical blood shortages in this country."

The extra funds will be used to help pay off roughly $300 million in debt the organization has accrued in implementing blood safety measures, blood officials said.

Since 1996, the cost of the Red Cross collecting, testing, transporting and delivering blood has risen 27 percent. In that same time, officials said, prices for their products have risen 9.9 percent.

The Red Cross has an annual operating budget of roughly $1.7 billion.

Platelets and Plasma Charges Will Not Increase

Officials said they need more money for research and development and to create a strategic blood reserve for emergencies.

The Red Cross collects 6.5 million units of blood a year. The organization collects a half million units of other special donations which may include plasma and platelets.

Prices are expected to remain stable for other blood products, such as platelets used for cancer patients and plasma used to treat hemophiliacs and others with bleeding disorders or immune system deficiencies.

The organization today started a $2 million advertising and telephone campaign aimed at current and lapsed donors.

The Red Cross recently tightened restrictions on donors who have traveled to Europe to guard against the import and spread of a human version of mad cow disease.

Just as easy to donate to the local hospital. They even give out T-shirts at times and always have nice drinks and cookies afterwards. Smile

If I remember correctly my Dad said when he came home from WWII they were on the dock trying to sell coffee to the troops coming home!
The Salvation Army was there as well, giving it away and thanking the troops. He never spoke well of the ARC for the rest of his life.

I saw them on action while stationed in Houma, Louisiana during and after hurricanes Katrina and Rita. I cancelled my monthly alotment to them; so did everyone else at our unit. A fine criminal enterprise full of scumbags.

I received a card from them in my mailbox asking for Donations after Hurricane Katrina. You would think they would have been more careful with their mailing considering it devastated the Mississippi Gulf Coast. There was a note stating that you could disregard the notice if you were a victim of the Disaster. That went over very poorly with friends who lost family members, homes and businesses. The US military did a lot to help us after the storm, as well as volunteer organizations from throughout the United States. I will never forget the generosity of others not from this area who helped us out.

It was not the Red Cross, and we all know about FEMA.

They haven't gotten a dime from me ever since I was in the Army in 62 to 64. At that time any change from our pay went to the ARC whether we wanted it to or not. Sc**w them.

I remember reading much of the money donated to the ARC for Katrina victims went to new office equipment for themselves.
