Anybody using an ultra wide monitor? Login/Join

I’ve been running side by side 27” displays for years now and I’ve always considered it the holy grail for my personal productivity when working. But my wife needed a monitor so I gave her one of mine and I discovered that I enjoyed the visual free space on the front of my desk, especially since my desk faces a window with a nice view.

That said, I still need multiple windows open while working and one 27” monitor isn’t enough space. So I went down the rabbit hole of 21:9 monitors in the 34” range and came away thinking, maybe. Anybody here with experience? Thanks.

Interested to see the responses. I run 2 24s & a 23.

Predominantly only work on 2 of them, but the 3rd comes in handy at times.

Yes. 38" Acer ~ love it.

I can fit three pages on the monitor nicely and use Display Fusion Pro software for enhancement and configuration.

Eek Just looked at pricing on these 38" curved displays, definitely well outside our IT budget this year.

I had been running two 27" monitors for years but I bought a smaller desk and switched to one 33" wide monitor and after a short period of adjustment I can't see going back to two monitors again

24 inch next to 32 inch sony tv, the HDMI port went out on the Bravia, so we bought a new TV for our daughter, figured I'd try the PC RGB connection and it works fine.

Makes a great second monitor..

Yep HK speakers, great sound.
Not that old - two or three years maybe.
Saw 'em online for $99 so maybe they are discontinued now - I paid around $150 or so.

Been using an LG curved ultra wide for a few years now. I was starting a new gig and talking to my son about which dual monitors to get when he told me dual monitors are so 2010, get a wide one!

Not much more expensive and I LOVE the flexibility and count options for screen size. Sometimes I need three screens and can do that with this, arranged however I like and whatever relative size with just a click and drag of the frame. Can go up to 4 splits. Normally work with a single vertical split with main section a little larger than half. No bezel on what's effectively 25% of both screens too.

So much nicer than two monitors, and a smaller footprint to boot! I wear glasses for monitor-distance clarity and the curved monitor helps with keeping distances consistent.

I have a 36 or 38 don't remember Dell.
I have the rest of my office using dual 27 inch monitors.
Everyone likes mine more, I find it much easier to use than 2.

I bought a cheap ($169) Acer 32" curved monitor from Sam's Club but the picture wasn't sharp enough and I took it back. Bought a 27" ultra high def HP and am well satisfied. I never split the screen and use mine for surfing and streaming youtube tv. I didn't like the curved screen.

I'm using an Acer Predator Z1 (Z301C) with eye tracking

I don't do serious work on my home PC, after working on one all day. I bought this monitor mainly for gaming and movies.
Its refresh ratevcan go up to 200 Hz.

Gaming is incredibly smooth, even at high refresh rates and movies look great. It incredible how good even YouTube videos look.
Text is perfectly legible.

The resolution is 2560X1080. Going with a larger screen size at that resolution will probably result in pixellation. I do not notice the curve in the screen anymore.

So far, I really like it.

Dell 34" AW3418DW here with 2 1080p 24"ers. The AW3418DW monitor is pretty well regarded for gaming. I think you can probably pick it up for under $800 now.

I moved from a Dell U3011 30" 2 years ago. I also wanted more real estate so I added 2 24's with articulating arms. I love this setup.

The new version is on Amazon for $991 right now.

I'm connecting a work laptop, a home gaming PC, and a Mac Mini media server to the monitor. I feel like I need two display port connections as I don't trust the HP laptop to support the max resolution on HDMI. Anybody have experience with that?

Thanks for the feedback! Smile

My "regular" work machine has a dual monitor setup. My forensic machine has a 32 inch single monitor due primarily to available desk space. I find I prefer the single wide monitor, and my work frequently requires multiple open windows. Now if I had the space, I'd set it up like the workstation we have in the conference area. 3 32 inch monitors and a 65inch 4k Sony. We usually run the office security cameras on the Sony, but on (sadly rare)slow days when the building is locked down it might occasionally switch to ESPN and the camera feed get shunted to the smaller screen...

I want one of those giant 38 inch screens for my home PC, but sadly my wife knows how much they cost.

I had a 34" Dell for a while and have since switched to a 4K 32" unit. It's not as wide as the ultrawide, but the vertical resolution is higher and I'm able to fit more RDP/Ticket/application windows on my monitor now.

I originally switched to the 34" from two 27" screens because the two screens had me moving my head back and forth too much, and getting new windows set up, on two monitors, was more of a pain that a single large monitor.

The 2560 versions are overpriced for what they are IMO. You have to swing for the 3k by 1440 or whatever the res is on the nicer ultrawides.

Both my desktops I use dual Dell 2007fp 20" 1600x1200 monitors.

Last year one of the power supplies died on a monitor.
No one seems to make anything in that size anymore.

So I went with a Dell 3417w - Curved 34" LCD. Petty much the same size as the two 4x3 20" LCD's. Happy with it.
