Named a woodland camo wrapped Model 700 S O B a couple minutes after leaning it against a tree trunk to take a leak.

" Son of a bitch! Where are you? "

OK, it wasn't me, maybe it was my Uncle Larry. Uncle Fred. The new guy in deer camp. Yeah, him.

Never named any item in my life beyond a pet. I know people do and no judgement here on that.

I name my rifles for the same reason they named cars in Gone in 60 Seconds. For example:

I have a Mosin Nagant M38 that I named Olga cause she's an ugly bitch that kicks. In my inventory book next to "Olga" is the serial number.

I have an Alexander Arms AR-15 upper/lower that's named Alexa because the engraving on the 6.5 Grendel upper is "ALEX-A." Next to "Alexa" is the serial number in the inventory book.

If any were to get lost or stolen I'd know which serial number is attached to the rifle for the police report while anyone who picked up that book and read it would have no idea what any of that means.

I started doing that since I was in high school and just kept it up over the years. I don't tell friends at the range to "hand me Alexa" or my girlfriend that I'm going to fingerbang Olga.

My late Uncle Bill named his 8mm Mauser sporterized Meat Getter.
Needless to say he hunted with it. Very successfully.
It had iron sights. He said he was more successful with it than his scoped Remington 700.

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster.

Haven't named any long guns, but borrowed the Cape Buffalo's nickname, Black Death, for a S&W M&P 340. It's black, and a 13oz .357, rather abusive to fire.
