I just bought this house and I see this outlet on the patio. There are several electrical items including a small fountain, lights, ceiling fan and electrical outlets everywhere. What is this: [IMG]file:///C:/Users/rpeed/Desktop/Albany%20golf%20course%20home/Electical%20box.jpg[IMG] Thanks in advance and I will have more questions coming!

I'm guessing there used to be an island or some other feature that they took with them when they moved. I can't imagine leaving a junction box just sticking up in the middle of the patio like that.

You'll need to figure out if there is any wiring in it and what type it is. If so, if its live or not and where it runs to. If there is no wiring in it, you'll need to find where the conduit ends.
Disclaimer: I am not an electrician, ive just done minor electrical work at my own home. If you have no experience working with electricity, I highly highly recommend hiring a licensed electrician.

You need to confirm wiring in the box, test the voltage, and then determine if it's a dedicated service and how much amperage they have provided you for the patio. If no wiring, that is the next step.
Could be live wires in there. Check it with a voltmeter than decide what to do with it and where is the breaker?

Yep, a junction box most likely housing three wires maybe with wire nuts- hot, neutral, ground. A voltage meter will tell if it's hot, and what voltage.

I will be moving in at the end of the month. There are a lot of things I am not sure of with this house and hope to be able to talk to the owner who is no longer living there.I want to set up an outdoor kitchen and hope this will allow power to it.
