Wasn't camping, backyard deck. Burned all the trimmings from the trees and bushes,
then added some old cut logs. Beautiful day sunny, no wind. I watched those flames
for hours. Mesmerizing. Life is good!

In one of my survival courses I remember the brief how the fire is like a friend. That is, remote, maybe alone, could be adverse conditions, yet that ‘friend’ is with you.

I mention that at times.

We did the same every night this past weekend. We replaced our wood fence, so we broke up all the old posts and slats and burned them. Nice way to spend the evening after busting concrete out of old post holes all day!

I agree, one of life's little pleasures!

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

A wee dram of whisky and a good cigar go well with a fire.

Three day, guys canoe trip his past weekend. Upstate PA on the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. Rain every day. Our fire made it bearable - it was really nice to get a good one going.
