Yeah, I’ve known a few. “Scientists have long speculated what caused the downfall of the Neanderthals, but a new study suggests they never truly went extinct at all. Scientists in Italy and Switzerland claim the ancient group of archaic humans didn't experience a 'true extinction' because their DNA exists in people today. Over as little as 10,000 years, our species, Homo sapeins, mated and produced offspring with Neanderthals as part of a gradual 'genetic assimilation'. …” DailyMail article: https://mol.im/a/15287001 Serious about crackers.

They needed to do a study to find out Neanderthals still exist? C’mon man! Q

Hell, I could have told you that without needing a fancy scientific study, just based on the folks I've dealt with (and in some cases worked with) over my LE career.

One could further speculate on modern era gathering sites no longer centered around the cave with the best fire, but instead certain big box stores… -------------------------------------- "There are things we know. Actually, no. Dealt with some of the non-SC "I know my rights!" (but they actually don't and are just confidently wrong) types. And some folks who decided to represent themselves in court and it went spectacularly wrong because they had no idea what they were talking about. But never any full-blown "I'm a non-corporate free traveller who doesn't want to create joinder with a representative of your admiralty court" SC types myself. Back when I first started there was a small group of them in my area, but after their shenanigans failed several times and the core folks got busted for manufacturing and selling illegal MGs, the SC "militia" in the area shriveled up. And a Judge I bailiffed for had some folks that turned into SCs after losing their cases, and proceeded to attempt to file a bunch of bullshit liens, lawsuits, and court judgements in a fictitious "people's court" against her. However, I mainly have worked specialized roles for much of my career (courts, schools, investigations, training, admin, etc.), with limited patrol/traffic time so I didn't have as much opportunity for the classic roadside SC encounters like you see in the viral videos. And most of that predated modern social media and YouTube anyway, which is playing a big part in driving the increase in SC bullshit theories. But I'm starting a part time patrol side gig for a local city in a few weeks, so there's still time...

I watched a series on Neanderthals about the Shanidar Caves in Kurdistan and one of the main explorers Ralph Solecki. Turns out they were a lot more advanced than was thought. Burials with flowers, musical instruments, if I remember correctly even their tools were better than Homo Sapiens of the same era. Bad news if you are from Europe or Asia, almost all of us still have DNA from them in us.

There is a school of thought called the "gene-centered view of evolution" that maintains that organisms are merely a way for genes to perpetuate themselves. After all, the life span of a gene is far longer than that of its "carrier." If there is any validity to that proposition, it is entirely logical that some of the Neanderthals' genes are present in modern humans. The same could be said for T. Rex genes, and pretty much every other extinct and extant species. It could be said that a man is simply a way for a gene to perpetuate itself. Besides, I'm not so sure that Neanderthals were much different from those people I see daily. Certain behaviors are logical no matter what circumstances or genetic profile an organism has. Richard Dawkin's "The Selfish Gene" is probably the best-known work describing this evolutionary perspective.

The current "popular wisdom" on TwitterX is that Caucasians are Home Sapiens with some mixed Neanderthal genes, and Sub-Saharan Africans are Home Sapiens with mixed Homo Erectus genes. Home Sapiens prevailed over Neanderthals because they were more aggressive and violent. Kind of like how chimpanzees can be more vicious in inter-group combat than more powerful gorillas.
