Tradition!

I remember as a kid in Brooklyn, the extended family going to a Chinese restaurant on Christmas. I guess we figured that nobody would know if we ate chaza there.

We are now. Half the family is sick with the flu. Two hospital confirmed cases. We will all get together and have a meal once things sort themselves out. But as for today, I'm definitely not going to starve!!

Just got home a short while ago from a Chinese buffet here in town.

Some family will be visiting tomorrow for a few days.

I did have a pleasant dinner.
There was an older gentleman there a few tables away, wearing a Vietnam veteran hat. He completed his meal, and as the server brought his check, I hopped up, thanked him for his service, and asked if he would allow me to buy his dinner in the spirit of Christmas and thanks.

He was genuinely surprised, but graciously accepted.

We talked for about 20 minutes.
He had served in the Army, and was stationed in Vietnam in ‘68 and ‘69.
He currently lives about 15 miles away.

He thanked me by giving me a paracord keychain, which had beads in two different service ribbon patterns, one for Vietnam service, and the other I’m unsure of.

Well, we're back from the Christmas Dinner at the 3 Olives and it was fabulous.

We got there just before they opened the doors and there were several vehicles and couples already waiting. When we were seated, my wife counted some fifty people in her line of sight and I believe there were several more on the other side of the little wall where we weere seated.

Every one of the staff we came in contact was friendly and quite competent. We both had the Surf and Turf and it was great. The beef was ordered rare and it came to the table just that way (often, the waiters in other restaurants think we don't know what we want when we order rare and the meat comes more done than we wanted-not here).

The Surf was three really large Jumbo Shrimp and they were done perfectly. The key is not to overcook shrimp and these were not. It's the fourth time I've had shrimp at this restaurant, twice I've had their Shrimp Scampi, once a Shrimp Cocktail and then the Surf today. All of these times the shrimp was cooked consistently.

There's a fantastic Italian Restaurant near us that has the best Lasagne I've ever eaten, but their Shrimp Scampi seems to have shrimp that they start to cook as they start to boil the pasta-too dry for my taste. Today's was simply perfectly cooked shrimp nd the Prime Rib was wonderful.

I hope the rest of you who chose (or had) to eat out today had a great meal and an enjoyable time.

I asked if they were gonna do this on New Years and the waiter said they were. BUT, my wife said he indicated they'd have this on New Year's eve and didn't say New Year's day, so now we gotta go back some time this weekend and find out for sure and, of course, have another meal, as long as we are there.

I started out about 1400 and drove around an hour looking for a place (web searches didn't give me what I wanted). Finally stopped at Andalous Mediterranean Buffet. I didn't know what a lot of it was and it didn't look appetizing (to me), but they had quite a selection and I found stuff I'd eat. Their mixed greens (spinach and ?) was excellent, the buttered kernal corn also, and I enjoyed the chicken nuggets. It was a good meal.

Yep - Since it is just the wife and I now we started eating out on Christmas about four years ago...Could not get into the local Chinese restaurant where we usually go because there was a 90 minute wait so wife and I ate at McDonald's this year....I wanted to come back and make a scrambled egg sandwich but she wanted a burger so we ate in the car just down the road from the restaurant....

Same here. After Christmas Eve service, we get Chinese, always sit down, rarely take out. We are fairly new to this area but went to the same place last Christmas Eve, and this year we were seated for dinner by 5:25. By the time we left at 6:30, there were 20-ish people waiting for a table to open up.

thank you for the way you honored the veteran ... I was US ARMY 9 1/2 yrs (1968-1977) (KOREAN DMZ FIELD ARTILLERY) and the wife also US ARMY (8 1/2yrs) (1970-1978)(clerical).. I have passed out approx 150 sets of beads for a key chain use that have two legs in the VIET NAM SERVICE RIBBON COLORS.. tell them that one leg is for them and the other leg is for the brothers in arms that did not come home... had one vet decline to accept --- let it go at that not wanting to know what demons he was still dealing with .. refuse to accept payment as they had paid in full already....GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS PAST/ PRESENT/ FUTURE.... drill sgt.

I was going to take my mom out for a prime rib dinner, but she's been fighting a cold the past few days and wasn't feeling well enough to go. I had leftover spaghetti and meatballs for my Christmas meal.
