Surefire's new Tactician handheld light for gun fighters - looks good

This item has me thinking hard about an Elzetta Alpha or Bravo set up with the flood lens and high/low tailcap. $150 for the A, $210 the B so not cheap but in line with the Surefire cost and I'm sure better.

My lights are pretty old, '90s 6Z with Malkoff M61 on the nightstand as an example. Good quality, just not throwing out the light of current tech.

I’ve got an Elzetta Alpha with flood lens. As an everyday carry light it is nice. Great quality. Maybe a bit more ‘floody‘ than I would like for more than across a small room. The killer is the too-light resistance in the exposed switch tailcap. I carry my light in the left leg pocket of Carhartts. The switch has turned on more than once just during my normal daily activities. First time I caught it while it still put out a reasonable amount of light. Second time it drained the batteries; I realized when I tried to use the light. I wish they had a protected tailcap like the E2D or the old Surefire Z48/49 rubber protected tailcap.

Its a fantastic every day carry light, from what I have seen so far.

Hey, we're talking about the product, and in a way we wouldn't be normally. They know this guy is an assclown who drives hit counters. It means sales. I wouldn't call it the most brillaint strategy, but perhaps dependable enough.

I have a few Surefire lights, but I agree with others that their time has come and gone. Just another overpriced light that is nothing special.

I don't try to beat up my lights yet they always get dropped by me or when I toss it to a friend that needs it. Surefire is just nothing special anymore.

I get really, really tired of hearing this in EVERY Surefire discussion since Abraham Lincoln invented the internet.

Usually some guy rocking a Maglight, or $50 Fenix or Olight, who thinks his latest Chinese hotness, is just as good. Its not.

Shakes head. Your $99 Poulan chainsaw would not be a good choice for a professional logger. Perhaps understand, that your shit flashlight that you prefer, would be a terrible tactical flashlight in the hands of a professional.

As to Surefire, they have gotten away from the lights that made them famous. BUT, that is all changing. Their new 2018 line is amazing. Their 2015-2017 line was shit. 2018 is turning a corner, and its the best Surefire lights that we have ever seen. Perhaps open your mind.

Ive been playing with this new Tactician light for the past couple hours. I can honestly say its the bees knees. The tailcap is a solid aluminum plunger. It looks like it would have ZERO failure points. My guess is this tailcap could be used commercially for ten years time and it would still work. Your Fenix/Olight tailcap would explode 15 times in the same use.

Lol. You gloss over the fact I said I own Surefires, I never mentioned any other brands I own or like, told me any light I have is shit, and I somehow own a crappy chainsaw? Have your hissy fit and play with your light crybaby.

I picked up a 14 inch Poulan at walmart for limbing. It was around 90 bucks four years ago. That thing gets used all the time and it is every bit as dependable as my Husky.

The last Surefire flashlight I bought, which was freaking expensive, stopped working properly after two weeks. I emailed customer service three times with no replies. Not too happy with them.

I'm the same way, I used to buy them but now competition has caught up and possibly passed them up when you factor in the price. The products that Streamlight and Fenix have been coming out with these past few years have been impressive.

Funny, I broke a piece of the mount on my Surefire X300U - completely my fault (overtightened it).

Surefire responded promptly and I had replacement parts in my hand in < a week. Free of charge.

Fenix is good, but I dropped one of the TK series lights at night once and it stopped working - regardless of battery, troubleshooting, etc, something in the tailcap failed. I paired it with a tailcap from another failed Fenix to get it working again, but as I count up my Fenix lights, the are 2 for 4 at failing, again with no Fenix response.

I still have a PD32 and PD15 - great lights, but the Surefire E1B is a nice middle ground of size between them.

Glad it's a free country, choose what you like. Chinese made or American made stuff, pick your price point.
