Besides which it's a poor analogy even if you did. A cop doesn't own the roads upon which he or she may willy nilly disregard traffic laws "just because." You do own SIGforum.

Hi Para, I knew when I posted my opinion on the president ruining my former liking of RB Aviators there would be folks that disagreed with my opinion, which it just what it was, my opinion. They are entitled to theirs and I support their choice. I worked for years in the maintenance industry and have tough skin, they can say what they want, I could give a crap less.
I do understand your stepping in as I have been on other forums where things were allowed to get out of hand and ultimately ruined a good place to exchange thoughts and ideas. You have corrected me a time or two in the past when I was out of line and needed reining in and I thank you for that. I feel your overall guidance of this forum is very even handed and know you will continue to do as you see fit. This is my favorite internet group to visit and will continue to be so. Keep up the good work but I suppose keeping us all on the straight and narrow must be like herding cats. Thank you for all you do for us.

I didn't just ban him; I erased him from this forum completely. Every post he ever made, every reference to him, as when another member quoted him- gone.

I don't even know who this former member is, as I don't pay much attention to that crying football players thread. But, man must have been keeping the resentment bottled up all these years and finally had to explode. Wow!! That's the first ever "account deletion" on SF, I think.

I’m just grateful to be here. There have been a number of times where I was out of line and would have been banned anywhere else. I was instead afforded the opportunity to act like an adult instead. Thanks, Para.

I can think of two others I won’t name. It’s a rare occurrence to be sure.

I could wax lyrical about this for awhile but it probably wouldn't add anything that hadn't already been said, and likely wouldn't make a lot of sense. And I'm stone cold sober.

I will say that you don't see too many forums with this large of a membership that is this polite, friendly and helpful 99% of the time. Do people get into pissing matches? Well yeah that's human nature. Do members get a verbal lashing or slapped from time to time for their actions? Yup, it's happened to me.

But I think the culture here has been fostered as supportive and welcoming and I'd say at times self-moderating. Members who have been here for a bit tend to know what's expected of them and know what pisses you off. I know I've seen plenty of "hey Para has asked that we not actually do X" in response to a post that runs afoul of either a permanent rule or a temporary request.

You don't see that too often in other forums, and clearly this one is doing quite well, so obviously you're doing something right.

Hopefully that made sense, and if not I apologize.

No, a man can change the rules whenever necessary; however, a gentlemen announces changes before requiring compliance.

I’d say you are a gentleman.
