https://america.gov/how-it-works

Instead of navigating the maze of websites, you ask questions in your own words, and you get official answers back instantly. There are no menus to learn or forms to hunt down.

America.gov replaces the websites Americans spend billions of hours searching, with a single experience that is effortless, fast, and organized around you. Just ask, and government answers.

Run by the government. America.gov is operated by the General Services Administration, a U.S. federal agency that supplies technology that the government uses.

No account required. Finding answers does not require you to create an account or share your personal information.

Get step by step guidance. Know what to do, what to bring, and where to go next.

I asked "Why does it take THREE MONTHS to get an appointment with an optometrist at the Lake Baldwin (Florida) VA clinic?"

I received a suggestion to request a Community Care appointment. I'll do that, we'll see how that goes.

Yes yes yes, it's AI. So what? If it helps folks navigate the federal government maze easier, more power to it.

It's probably a LOT better than dealing with a maze populated by gov't employees and way too many no answer dead ends, so that's a good thing.

However:
- The system goes online on September 29th, 2026
- Human decisions are removed from gov't systems...BUT
- What happens when it becomes 'self-aware'? Razz

Does America.gov do, or help you do, your income tax?

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

More important, will it pay the tax for you?

Sure.

Me: America.gov, how much do I owe?

America.gov: How much did you make? Pay that amount.

President Trump signs an executive order directing EVERY federal agency to immediately start folding into http://America.gov, creating one AI-powered front door for the entire U.S. government.

ONE website to search for EVERYTHING from the federal government. No more bouncing between 47 different agency websites just to renew a passport or check a damn benefit.

47 is FINALLY bringing the federal government into the 21st century. Should've been done a LONG time ago!

I will be applying for passport for the first time. This is a wonderful gift from the government. Did I just praise the government? Be right back. Going down there to verify that it has frozen over. Big Grin

There are more than 29,000 federal government websites across the entire U.S. government. This total includes all public-facing federal websites, microsites, and sub-sites managed by different departments and agencies.
The scale of the government's digital footprint can be broken down into two main categories:
• Top-Level Domains: There are roughly 2,000 top-level federal .gov domains (such as WhiteHouse.gov, USDA.gov, and USA.gov).
• Sub-sites and Pages: Beneath those top-level domains sit tens of thousands of standalone sub-sites, blogs, and portals, totaling the 29,000 count. Together, these sites host an estimated 800 million pages of public information.
Consolidation Efforts
Because maintaining thousands of independent websites can cause user confusion, security challenges, and high costs, the federal government has actively pushed to consolidate its digital infrastructure:
• The GSA Website Review: An analysis led by the General Services Administration (GSA) identified thousands of redundant, low-traffic, or standalone sites (such as agency photo galleries and blogs) to be decommissioned or merged into larger parent domains.
• The Launch of America.gov: The White House introduced America.gov, an AI-powered single point of entry intended to act as a central hub or "concierge" for citizens, drawing data from all 29,000 federal websites into a unified search experience.

I can see it being quite the target for cyber actors. I would hope they back it up often!

Everything in one place is great for us, bad idea for when its hit and goes down. Hopefully some contingencies will be in place.

I thought the same, though not about it being temporarily taken down, but rather that is being a source of leaks from data sets that we'd not want to allow AI tools access to.
