The Ice Cream Man

So, a number of my friends are vets. I have been asked to make various ice cream flavors for them. (These will be limited, as in, probably a few gallons on a test line.)

Crayon/Crayon Cake for the Marines. (Possibly, in time for the Marine Corps Birthday Cake. I'm thinking a vanilla cookies, with some crayon shaped pieces of dyed white chocolate. Its going to be quite a bit of work, but I've been friends w. the Marine in question for 20 years, so...)

Squidbelly for the Navy (Any ideas? One of my friends was in subs. Anything particular for them?)

Chairforce Truffles/BonBons/Trifle for the Airforce. (Again, lots of work, but one of my oldest friends. Not sure how to get chair shaped pieces of chocolate, but at worst, I'll just put truffles.)

Army? Any ideas?

Anything for the Paras (UK)?

While in the Navy we called junk food Gedunk. I never knew why until googling the name just now.

quote:
Gedunk (also Geedunk and Gedonk)
Gedunk refers to ice cream, candy, potato chips, and other snack foods, as well as to the place on a ship where these items are sold. The first known published usage of the term "gedunk" in a non-naval context is in a 1927 comic strip which refers to "gedunk [ice cream] sundaes." In 1931 it was mentioned in Leatherneck magazine; subsequent early naval usage includes Robert Joseph Casey'sTorpedo Junction: With the Pacific Fleet from Pearl Harbor to Midway (published in 1943); and Robert Olds' Helldiver Squadron: The Story of Carrier Bombing Squadron 17 with Task Force 58 (published in 1944).

How about famous battles. Ever notice the names on the streets of USMC bases, not to mention ships??? Names as well, you know the Halsey double dip cone or the Nimitz banana split?

My grandfather was either a Command Master Chief, or Master Chief - not sure, but I think he was a Command one. Unfortunately, no one took a color photo of him, and he was buried in his dress blues.

We will probably do "Master Chief's Gedunk", in his favorite flavor, but that doesn't work at harassing my other buddies.

"Pogey Bait" as a flavor name; Army green could be pistachio or (chocolate chip) mint with pieces of candy bar bits mixed in. I'd love a flavor like (green) mint with some crumbled or mashed up Goldenberg's Peanut Chews mixed in. Break a leg, and happy to be your sampler for the flavor!

Best regards,
Nick.

When I was in the CG we had the best midrats! Affectionately called “hamsters “ (really it was chicken cordone bleu )...

You could make some pistachio and call it “sea foam.” For the sailors.
