Amazing, how Neil came up with the Bears (Spring Branch HS), because it closed its doors in 1985. I went there initially in 1975. Then my family moved, and I had to transfer to Spring Woods High (Tigers) the same year. Neil is slight out of sequence, but there was no sequence requirement.

So, congrats! I'll get in touch with you later. Got to get back to work. Cool

Wow, that's what had us all hung up....you moved after the first year at the High School. That was bound to keep us guessing for a long time.lol

Congrats to you both, and what another good Karma thread. These are too much fun. Thanks for doing these.

I went to elementary school in the late 70's early 80's in houston. I lived a whole 2 miles away from spring branch elementary and just made a guess that spring branch might be one of the high schools only because I went to that school district.

The best evidence is that the Sam Houston mascot, the "Bearkat," was never intended to be patterned after a real animal.

According to the university's Web site:

"Sam Houston State University's athletic teams have been nicknamed 'The Bearkats' since 1923 when the University's name was changed by the Texas State Legislature from Sam Houston Normal Institute to Sam Houston State Teachers College. (Prior to 1923, the varsity sports teams were nicknamed 'The Normals').

Ok thanks for the explanation. Congrats to nshumway! Now if they can make a not real bearcat mascot, somebody can create a panda mascot like Kung Fu Panda!!
