Maybe tells me about all I need to know about that coach, or maybe I read it wrong or out of context. Either way, a great win for Texas.

He was smirking because they were both crap calls.

The 1st one the defender was tackling with his shoulder making contact and "head across the bow" like they are taught. The ball carrier initiated head to head contact with his own helmet. This type of call has to be looked at by the rules committee next year. It gets called far to often when the offensive player's last second actions initiates the head contact.

The second one the QB was giving himself up by sliding. Margin call perhaps for roughness although it's debatable if the defender had time to pull off as the slide was initiated pretty late. No way it was targeting as there was no contact to the head or neck area and no use of the defenders helmet.

The "TV broadcast consulting expert on replay calls" commented on the last "targeting" he would not eject the player as it did not appear intentional and the roughness part he could go either way. He seemed surprised replay officials ejected the player.

I was at the game so only had the benefit of the few replays on the big screen but that is exactly how I saw it. Nothing on that play was close to targeting as it is defined in the rules.
