Local gun forum, I had a rifle posted. 4 clear postures of the rifle with its mods/features listed. Did not say anything else other than pics, description of the rifle and the price. Another member reached out and offered a trade. I took him up on it. We met up in person in a public area. He looked at mine and I looked at his. He asked me for the round count and I gave him the best possible answer I had. We shook hands and drove away. That was yesterday at noon or so. Today he reaches back out to me and starts asking questions about some marks and its use. Things that can be seen clearly in the pics themselves, and things that he had the chance to inspect prior to making the trade. I explain to him that no, it’s a modular rifle and not every part is the original from the factory. I listed all of the features in the add itself and while they aren’t original to the rifle, they’re all from the same company (again, a modular rifle). Not even “lesser” versions from the same company, just things like swapping an MLOK for a quad when both are made by the same manufacturer. Things that were listed in the add and apparent in the pics. Guy says he wants to swap back. He says he wanted it in its “original” (from the factory) configuration. He’s very polite about it which is the only reason I am considering it. Also the fact that he’s a very young guy (early 20s) and likely doesn’t/didn’t know what he was looking at. He’s offered to make the drive over to me in order to swap back. What would you do?

Not being a hard ass. But he needs a learning lessen. If you are happy I would tell thanks but no thanks. Done deal. It is not like he did not have a chance before he agreed. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

No. If I forgot to disclose something or if pics weren't clear then yes

If you decide to undo the trade, I'd at least take a really close look at it to make sure they guy isn't a sleaze bag who swapped out some parts or messing something up playing with it. Wouldn't be the first time.

Totally agree with this. Had a somewhat similar situation a while back. A member contacted me if I had a P228 for sale. Showed him several pics of a 2-tone one. We agreed on the price. He paid. I shipped it to his FFL. He contacted me with a few pics he took showing some discolorations at a couple of places on the nickel slide. Totally my fault for using old pics and not taking new ones. The gun clearly developed some discolorations while in storage, and I had failed to pay close attention to the gun before shipping out. Refunded him fully and told him to keep the pistol. Q

guys, he saw it "in person" to do the swap. so the pix thing is irrelevant. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

“The principle of the thing”? Are you being asked to cheat on your wife? Commit perjury? Betray an oath? Spy for the wicked Ukrainians? I’ve made mistaken decisions and have been fortunate enough for people to allow me to undo them. If anything I learned more from their kindness than a hard, “No: You made your bed, now lie in it.” The fact that I had to ask for a favor was all the think before you act lesson I needed in that regard. I would be a little put off by claims that he didn’t know what he was getting, when it was probably just trader’s remorse. I might even say something to add to the lesson, but wouldn’t let that be the deciding factor. My question would be how important was the swap to you? Is what you got something that reminded you of your grandfather? Did you get it to give to someone who had been searching high and low for it? Does it round out the collection you’ve been trying to fill? Or, “No, I simply don’t want to undo the trade,” which is reason enough. ► 6.0/94.0 “I can’t give you brains, but I can give you a diploma.” — The Wizard of Oz

Nope, I’d tell him No and block him. Keep a screenshot if you can of your ad posting and screenshot any texts.

A deal's a deal, and IMO you have no obligation to undo. That said, if the guy's polite, if it feels to you his mistake is understandable, and if what he traded you could be gotten readily elsewhere, I'd consider the request.

It’s interesting that the poll results are 50/50 but all comments are saying that I shouldn’t trade back.

I’d give it a very good inspection and take it back. He can’t be the only buyer out there. I once sold a SUV that broke when it got to the new home. By broke I mean the radius arm fell right off (rust is a bitch). I offered to give his money back. Guy said he had already replaced it with one off a wrecked vehicle the neighbor given him. ----------The weather is here I wish you were beautiful----------

The comments caught up with the poll results. Or, the poll results caught up with the comments. Q

IF you knew it was a fair trade. With the info given, I voted no. Yes, Maybe .. if you knew why or some unexpected personal reason. No need to feel guilty if you don't tho. ------------------ The plural of anecdote is not data. -Frank Kotsonis

"Bust a deal and face the wheel?"... not really. If he's willing to do the legwork and if the item I traded checked out ok, I'd undo the swap. === I would like to apologize to anyone I have *not* offended. Please be patient. I will get to you shortly.

IF you do the un-swap, then make sure it's all there internally and not damaged in anyway and clear to him about that. Might be a little traders remorse, happens, sometimes the deal seems better than you thought. If he's a good young man then I don't see the harm in it...

If his personality changed for the worse, like somethings not right, or he is hostile, or his personality changed, I'd consider it if he could be dangerous. But that's just me, since most of us have run into people like that that get scary right out of the blue. That's criminal or mental illness. Lover of the US Constitution Wile E.
