Interesting to see a mention of the name Schikelgruber from a book. I had been told that name translated to money gruber and was a racial slur on the supposed jewish quest for money. This was presented to me as a racial joke and had NO basis in fact.

Fighting the good fight |
Nope. Hitler's father's original surname is a historical fact. Besides, the German surname Schicklgruber translates to roughly "fancy valley dweller". It is derived from Schick, meaning elegant or posh (also from which the French derived the similar term "chic"), and Grube, meaning a valley or a pit, with -er denoting someone who lives there. Schick, Schickl, Gruber, and Schicklgruber are not uncommon German/Austrian surnames. Trying to align it with "Shekel- (money-) grubber" is a gross overreach, attempting to conflate Yiddish/Hebrew and Old English terminology with Middle/High German words.

That rug really tied the room together. |
I was just reading that the Russians were at war with the Japanese and they smashed the Japanese army to pieces in 1939. If Japan had shipped in more resources and soldiers, Stalin would have had an eastern and western front, and it would not be likely that they could repel the Germans. After smashing Japan, they were able to shift many planes and tanks and manpower westward to fight the Germans. And something mentioned in the article (fascinating) was the Japanese leaders got together and discussed their future plans. One leader was in awe of Russian firepower , he basically said “fuck this. Let’s expand south and deal with the Americans” He wanted nothing to do with Russian troops again. ______________________________________________________ Often times a very small man can cast a very large shadow
