The firemen should have kept spraying a mist of water instead of standing around talking. My opinion.

I remember seeing this and thinking the same thing. They were spraying water. They turn off the hose and stop.
I'm not sure if that's because the water pressure can harm you when you come back out w/ your dog but, I don't know.
The water pressure seemed weak to begin with.

I learned as a cop that you can accuse a man's wife or children of about anything. But never accuse the dog.

I think my dog would do that for me if they could figure out how; I'll be honest to say I don't know how I'll react.

I do wonder if the steam would be more harmful and that they stopped to not expose him to it. I don't know. Perhaps a fireman will chime in soon. I also wonder if the water pressure was poor because the whole island was on fire at the same time.

I'm not going to arm chair quarterback this. Those guys where like what the fuck? Steam expands like 1700 times it's volume of water which is bad for a viable victim in a structure. they where holding a limp noodle and probably out of water and in transition or securing a supply from the brush truck as you can hear the primer being activated and with residual foam in the lines where probably more in brush/exterior fire operations than structural/ interior operations. You can also see that they appear to advise an officer of what is transpiring as one guy is turning on his bottle I assume getting ready to go in when the guy comes out with his dog.

That brought tears to my eyes. I hope I would be able to do the same.

Years ago we responded to a house fire call and the old lady that lived there ran out and locked herself out. She was screaming about her dog in a crate in the basement. FD still hadn't shown up so we kicked in her door and ran down there and got her dog out.

I'd do the same.

Glad it worked out. I'd do the same unless the house was so fully involved that it was unapproachable. About 15-ish years ago one of my neighbors, an elderly couple, had a house fire. The wife went back in to get the dogs out. She didn't make it back out. Turned out the dogs had been outside all along. Situational awareness...

It's a tough call to make without knowing what they did or didn't know,how much of the house was involved-from floor to ceiling, what incident command decided, etc.. I understand the guy running in to save his dog, don't know if he told the the ff's or not or if they even heard him. Me personally, would have run with him or asked him what was he doing and then do it myself. We are more prepared for the situation and the ff's bottles should have been on prior to getting close to the home. In a home heated by fire, steam or not, your lungs will sear in a matter of no time if you take a breath with the heated gases, let alone the upper airway.

On a side note, a person that has burned hairs, in the mouth or nose especially or burns to the face, will need to be intubated due to swelling of the airway due to poss. of breathing in heated gases. I have seen it a few times and it amazing how quick it happens. I hope ems checked him out really well and he didn't have any issues. It's bad enough with smoke inhalation but high temps can/will do irrepairable damage.
