I paid 3k cash for a 1999 Isuzu Trooper with 70,000 miles on it two years ago. I absolutely love it. It a blast to drive.

Plus there is the added plus that a Jeep of this generation is really easy to customize with factory upgrades such as DVD changers, navigation, bluetooth, backup cameras, radio buttons on the steering wheel...

That and it is a Jeep, so the suspension and chassis would only be limited by your imagination and budget.

I have a 2019 Ranger (Supercrew, FX-4) that I’ve put 11k miles on. I bought it as a daily driver that could also take me out on trails and haul bikes, camping gear, and the occasional light trailer. I bought it thinking it was a great compromise truck, but after driving it for awhile it’s now the best utility vehicle I’ve ever owned. That “award” was previously held by my ‘99 4 runner which I had for 16 years.

The Ranger is surprisingly comfortable on the highway, even with the FX-4 off-road package. The engine is fantastic, and it handles well for a light truck. Trails are a blast, and the Ranger’s size is perfect for Jeep trails and fire roads. I’ve been able to work out a bunch of different configurations for the 5ft bed to haul a variety of gear. The crawl control is very good off-road, and the B/O sound system is great. I’m really impressed with pretty much everything about this truck.

1st generation Honda Ridgeline. I bought my 08 new and never expected to keep it this long but it does everything I want it to do. I've got a 2018 JK Jeep, a 2015 AWD Sienna, a 2014 Chevy 2500 lt express van and a 2011 Acura TSX wagon and I prefer the RL to any of them.

Lincoln Navigator Raptor V6 - 450 hp 510 Ft lbs torque. Tow over 4 tons. 7-8 passengers or massive cargo capacity. Incredible comfort and road presence. Go the Ford Expedition for lower cost or the Ford Raptor for off road prowess.

The 4th gen is a fine vehicle, it just isn't a 3rd or 5th gen, splitting hairs though.


4TH Gen is also available with the V8


I owned a 98 Limited and currently a 2020 TRD Off-Road Premium. I would've like to own a 4th gen too, but the 98 just wont die. I drove it till literally the wheel feel off at ~297K.

3rd gen:
  • manual transfer case
  • good stock ground clearance
  • available rear locker
  • more available aftermarket parts
  • best looking gen 4runner IMO


4th gen:
  • electronic transfer case l.g. more prone to failure
  • lower stock ground clearance
  • better road handling vs the 3rd
  • available v8

Toyota 4Runner. It's not exactly in the fun to drive category as the acceleration is rather lackluster and well, they handle like a truck. That said, when properly equipped they'll go anywhere and haul all of your shit there. They're also relatively bulletproof.




My daughter can deflate your daughter's soccer ball.

Wife and I really enjoy our Wranglers (we each have one). We have a couple extra vehicle choices when running around town (to include a JGC, and Outback), but we drive the Wranglers more than the others, just from the fun factor alone.

Fun factor, Wranglers are hard to beat. If you need the space, the 4 door Unlimited is the way to go.

We briefly considered a JLU to replace my wife's Flex, but she felt like the interior was a downgrade by comparison.

I DD a Mercedes C-class & quite liked the JL.
If my car wasn't dropping in value quicker than WTI oil, I'd consider a trade into one.

The Landcruiser is far from dead. Toyota will be redesigning it for the 2022 model year. Whether or not it comes to America still is left to be determined. My guess is that it will come here but maybe get more expensive. The reality is that even if price goes up 10% or more it’s still worth it. My 2019 Landcruiser is the best built vehicle I’ve owned. It is just as well built as the 2017 Mercedes G550 that it replaced but gets a slight edge due to its simpler naturally aspirated V8 vs the Mercedes twin turbo. The Landcruiser is basically a halo car for Toyota, unfortunately that means it isn’t going to be cheap.

I drove the 19 and the 20. I liked the 20 a bit better. 2020 isn't the best time to be doing this, and I'm frustrated with my Chevy because it should be all that and a ball of wax, but it just isn't and I'm concerned that I have my 2nd lemon transmission of the last 4.

While my Troopers were from a few years prior (two 1990 models owned separately), I’d second this - very fun (and capable) vehicles.

My current ride is a 2017 Tacoma, an SR5 model in 4x4. Fun, sturdy, and quite capable.
