I dunno. I consider my "gripes" to be more just statement of facts. I'll be 77 next month.

I'm still able to keep up the farm for the most part...it just takes me a lot longer. About two hours of what I consider hard work is about it for me for the day. Things like cutting up and stacking firewood for example. I really can't lift anything. A big sack of dog food has to wait for my daughter or son in law to handle. I can still climb up ladders ok but cleaning out the chimney gets farmed out now.

Oh, forgot the most important thing of all. I can still go hunting. Smile

I’m 71 and our city just replaced our garbage cans with theses “pick up from the street (must be no more than 2 feet from the curb) so the automatic dump thingy can reach out and grab it…I miss the days when our “garbage disposal people” would come up my driveway and retrieve the can from my driveway and empty it out into the truck and return it to its place (my 85 year old stepmom is in an on going battle with Smyrna
GA over her inability to roll a full garbage can down her steep driveway…as for me I don’t see anymore Chick-Fil-A free food coupons I taped to the lids…same for my inept USPS delivery person…I guess I’m just an old asshole who remembers when life was better Frown

Getting lots of mail; and most of it junk or from someone or a group wanting money. It's like SSA told the world I'm now getting that stipend from 47 years of chipping in for it....Paying more for medical visits than when working...seeing friends and loved ones cross over the bridge.

Hypothetically, conversations could be:
  • I showed the grandson how to build rapport with customers and he's the #1 salesman last month
  • I taught my niece how to calculate what time to leave to be on time so she doesn't get fired for being late
  • I taught the kid next door who has an absentee Dad how to sharpen a lawnmower blade
  • I taught the recently unemployed guy at church how to write a punchier resume
  • etc.

I know it sounds preachy, but to be able to talk about the above involves the prior step of actively looking for mentoring opportunities.

I'm still working, but at the tail end of my career. I certainly get a lot more joy out of mentoring early and mid career folks than doing something for the 3000th time. Also, more enjoyable talking about it rather than the good ole days when I first started.

  • Great! Pass that acquired knowledge and wisdom on to the next generation.

I had my patience tested... I'm negative.

If you can get them to take the ear buds out and listen.
