Listening to or talking about medical problems and ailments.

Just say fine for my age and call it good.

Then there's know what everything used to cost ,
It's pretty darn irrelevant
at this time in our lives.

Important stuff like dates, faces, times and places fly way before I am done with lunch.

But for some reason the least important cost of a pound of hamburger sticks like glue.

Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency.

I gripe about memory loss. The other thing I gripe about is memory loss.

If I remember correctly, you & I are about the same age, and my spouse is about the same age as your'n.

Everything hurts. One of us is always adding a Dr. appointment to the calendar, and I'll likely be having hip surgery in the next few weeks.

I feel for you, man.

Wouldn't it be more rewarding and life affirming to spend time talking about mentoring the next generation?

Hypothetically, conversations could be:
  • I showed the grandson how to build rapport with customers and he's the #1 salesman last month
  • I taught my niece how to calculate what time to leave to be on time so she doesn't get fired for being late
  • I taught the kid next door who has an absentee Dad how to sharpen a lawnmower blade
  • I taught the recently unemployed guy at church how to write a punchier resume
  • etc.

I know it sounds preachy, but to be able to talk about the above involves the prior step of actively looking for mentoring opportunities.

I'm still working, but at the tail end of my career. I certainly get a lot more joy out of mentoring early and mid career folks than doing something for the 3000th time. Also, more enjoyable talking about it rather than the good ole days when I first started.
