Putting your feet up… Login/Join
Run Silent

When I was a kid, my dad would always come home from a hard day and want to put his feet up. I never understood it as a kid, it wasn’t comfortable and I never felt a need or desire to do it.

I’m not exactly sure what happened, maybe going through my 50s, but now I enjoy putting my feet up and find it hard to just sit in my recliner without my feet up in someway. Recliner or ottoman both work.

I guess this goes hand-in-hand with making those noises when he’d sit down or get up… Guilty as charged as well.

It sucks getting old… but I guess it’s a right of passage into old age.

I put my feet up every chance I get! It just makes them feel soooo much better. Ditto on the noises also.

I'm a troglodyte, I HATE surfing on my phone. A laptop is only marginally better.

The preferred method is a desktop, large monitor, tipped back in my Fatass Special computer chair, feet up on the desk, wireless keyboard in my lap.

I spend several hours most days in exactly that configuration, followed by a couple of hours in a leather recliner, feet on a foot stool, blankie over my legs watching my 48" LCD TV.

Life is good...

Something I learned many years ago: Don't stand when you can sit. Don't sit when you can lay down. Nap at every opportunity.

Same principle applies when sitting, feet up.

But then again, I’ve been beaten up and broken down pretty good over the last 50+ years.

Putting feet up works best when the rest of the body is comfortable. In the second half of 2012 I was pretty well forced to (recovering from injury) and was happy to have had a reclining sofa. (Not mine; long story.)

- old man noises... check
- desktop, large monitor... check
- feet up, hmmmm... need to get me a better chair/ottoman - maybe an even bigger monitor

Can't stand surfing on a phone - eyes too compromised and 'keyboard' sucks

Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do.

I believe this is normal, necessary, and required practice for good health. If you fail to put your feet up there will be irreversible, permanent, negative consequences both physically and mentally.

That's funny about making sounds getting up or sitting down. Having a recliner just naturally invites you to put your feet up. Other than chairs for the dining table, all my living room furniture are recliner chairs, no sofas.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
