Just picked up our new to us, 2005 Road King. It is in immaculate condition and Stella loves it too! The roads in this area of East TN are fantastic for riding. I already reattached the crash bars on the front and will add rear crash bars and dump guards as well. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. 6700 miles, new battery and tires.

Only 6700 miles? Nice find! My 2005 Electraglide has 94,000 miles on it. I should probably sell it, because my knees are getting too bad & I haven't ridden it in a couple years.

I'm perusing getting a new bike, once I get the Rotus sold/gone. Contemplating picking up a project, since I still have access to my FIL's 2nd bike, just need this Houston heat to die down & get the move over with.

Congrats on yours!

2005 RoadKing is a fantastic bike, I don't see the windshield mounts, if you are doing a windshield the Klockwerks flare is a great choice for the FLHR's

Harley's Speedo/Tach combination is also a good upgrade.

Congrats on your new ride!

Given its age I would consider replacing all of the fluids including the brake fluid as it can and will absorb moisture (resulting in a decrease of braking performance).

Wishing you many miles Safe and Fun Riding!

Nice scoot! If it hasn't been ridden, definetly change the fluids and check the cam chain tensioners. Have fun, dirty side down!

Thanks, any tips are greatly appreciated. It had been serviced recently but it is going to a nearby specialist (NOT dealer) for a complete inspection. The original owner told me some horror stories about local dealer. I will then service it myself regularly.
Here is a pic from the day I looked at it.

RK is a great bike, had a 98 Cop RK that I played with for a few years. Like the Blue color.

CAPhil is correct looks the hardware to mount a windshield isnt there, RK's have removable windshields, nice to have the option. It's easy to add if you want one.

I think that model is the RK Custom and didn't come with a windshield from the factory.

BTW they are not crash bars, they are Engine and Bag Guards Big Grin

For additional consideration especially if you are going to be riding at night would be to upgrade to LED’s for better illumination (quality of light and distance of light projection).

HD sells the DayMaker line, you'd need a 7 inch model, there are several options from adaptive to static, the adaptive has lights that illuminate when cornering for more light on the road.

Link HD Lights LED

If you consider non HD company options then Custom Dynamics has the market covered with LED light options from Turn signal, Tail light and head light. Some of the best customer service and warranty on LED products come from Custom Dynamics. See if your local shop is a dealer,

Link 2005 RK Custom - Custom Dynamics

I think since the bike is an 05 it will require a module for the LED lights ie Turn signals, brakes, Custom Dynamics has the plug and play modules for whatever you like.

I have the HD LED headlight but my 16 RG came with the LED headlights and tail lights and turn signals.

Did upgrade the front turn signals from HD LED to Custom Dynamics.

Highly suggest you do the brake, turn and head light...

Check out Ciro 3d for lighting as well. Tons of customizations for HD riders. Advanblack is also getting into the lighting biz. Have fun and ride like you're invisible!

Congratulations. Great bike- I had a ‘97 RK for many years.

If it still has the stock air suspension I’d strongly recommend changing that out with Progressive Suspension parts. It will drastically improve the overall ride and handling.
