I wish you all the best in dealing with your treatment and this fight. Cancer sucks when it hits close, and worse when it's even closer.

We will pray for you in church this Sunday. I am putting in a prayer request for you.
“Our actions may be impeded... But there can be no impeding our intentions or our dispositions. Because we can accommodate and adapt. The mind adapts and converts to its own purposes the obstacle to our acting.
The impeding to action advances action.
What stands in the way becomes the way.”

kkina, it occurs to me that I don’t even know if you’re surrounded by family helping you with this fight. I sure hope so. Keep fighting, brother, your extended family here will support you in every way we can.

First chemo session is this coming Wednesday. About 4 hours. Anyone who's been through it, any suggestions? Anything I should bring with? Apparently most people make up a special chemo bag for themselves.
I survived Throat Cancer diagnosed in Feb 2024 - Chemo / Radiation - Halfway into treatment my eating ability went to zero and I got the Tube - You will probably need it as well and will be guided by your Radiation team - Don't wait as waiting lists can be 20+ days and all the while you're starving. You will be able to write about what Starving really means when it happens. Keep the Faith Brother - I'm in the Mpls, MN area and had great care which was 5 miles local to me. The care givers you meet along the way are true Angels. Best of Luck

^^^^^^^^^ Often it is group chemo. Find the most competent and nice chemo nurse to take care of you. Most chemo rooms are full of candy bars, crackers and other snacks. You may want someone to drive you home. Chemo is progressive in its side effects. Good luck.

First of all, prayers inbound.
Second of all, my only experience with a longer infusion chemotherapy was Mom's first chemo drug took about 5 hours. She brought a friend or family member and her chemo bag was filled mainly with entertainment (deck of cards, board games, etc). The friend or family member also drove her home afterward as she was exhausted.

We had a bag for Tabitha.
Snax, a comfy blanket, pillow, iPad and headset. Tabs had a plushy cockatoo that Neva here sent her.
It will become routine and you will eventually only bring what you deem necessary for the visit each time. Some things will be mandatory.

I've personally experienced the power of prayer with an immediate healing of my shoulder injury. I'll be praying for you, Kevin.

As a possible PSA I should mention how I came to have esophageal cancer.
I developed GERD (acid reflux) due to a hiatal hernia (part of the stomach pushes up through an opening in the diaphragm, the muscle separating the chest and abdomen). Long-term bathing by stomach acid produced changes in the lining of the esophagus, a situation that can make you more susceptible to this type of cancer.
Esophageal cancer is believed to be on the rise amongst midde-aged men. If you have long-term issues with acid reflux, don't assume it's trivial. It might behoove you to get periodic screenings (endoscopy) for detecting pre-cancerous conditions as early as possible.
