Wow. I thought 7% was bad, but at least we don't have local tax in Indiana. That's some BS right there. We do have county income tax, and wheel tax on vehicles is county by county. Property taxes are capped at a Max of 1% in the state Constitution, and we have a homestead exemption, so a person's property of primary residence is only taxed on 45% of it's assessed value. The more I learn about other places, the happier I am that I live in Indiana. Sure it's flat and boring with spastic weather patterns and covered in corn, soy beans, and trailer parks...but those things keep liberals from wanting to migrate here, so I guess we should be grateful.

I stopped at a Wal-Mart in Arnold, MO to pick up 4 quarts of transmission fluid. When I got to the checkout and saw the total I thought it was a mistake. When I found out that the sales tax rate in this "special taxing district" was over 11% I told them never-mind. When the clerk asked me if something was wrong I told her it was the tax rate and that I would not be back. I didn't need it that day anyway and saw no reason to submit and support an 11% tax rate when I had other options. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

PA doesn’t have a “county” sales tax. There is a state wide sales tax of 6%. Don’t know what the big cities (Philadelphia and Pittsburgh) do.

Michigan Constitution of 1963 prohibits local sales taxes and requires a portion of the state sales tax collected be returned to the unit where it originated in the form of "revenue sharing". But we do like our property taxes. __________________________ Writing the next chapter that I've been looking forward to.

And if you have a 2nd garage that is taxed at 3% and if your homestead is over an acre any excess of an acre is taxed at 3%. I think the homestead is arbitrary $45,000 off of assessed value not 55% off AV. If your homestead is assessed at 200,000 you would owe tax on $155,000. 1% is $1550 per year. Add a $20,000 2nd garage and tax on it is $600, likewise an inground pool gets you another 3% of pool's assessed value and Indiana is supposed to be true mkt value on assessments. And then the sneaky taxes add up. You can install your own water heater and no one knows. you are supposed to get a $45 permit but no one does. If you hire a licensed plumber to install wh they must get a permit and then a city employee who isn't even close to being a licensed plumber comes around to inspect the work. You can't win. ________________________ God spelled backwards is dog

Hawaii has a General Excise Tax (GET) which on Maui is 4.166%. It’s like a sales tax but different. For example, it’s not just levied on the final consumer. The store paid it when they bought whatever you’re buying from the distributor, who paid it when they bought it from the manufacturer. They’re allowed to pass it along and they all do, which is one reason prices are high here, and almost nothing is exempt, not even medical and legal bills. The 4.166 looks good but in actuality the percentage of the final cost that went to taxes is much higher.

Yup, NH has taxes on Liquor, just like any other state. That said, the NH tax on Liquor is lower that ALL of the surrounding states! We also 'strategically locate' NH State Liquor Stores at all of the Highway Rest Areas, in both directions, so Entering AND Leaving the State! Again, Tourism is a BIG part of the NH economy! A funny (and telling) story from a few years ago....A 'MassHole' politician (State Senator or Representative, not sure which), And THE Legislator the led the charge on raising the Liquor Tax in Mass, was caught on tape by the local news loading his trunk with CASES of liquor in the parking lot of a NH State Liquor Store. Seriously, this guy was the spokesperson for the tax increase, co-sponsored the bill, helped write it, and took credit for getting it passed in the MA Legislature....And then he was caught red-handed only weeks, if not days later! Oh, and then the 'icing on the cake' - When confronted he defended himself by stating that he was visiting NH and and the the liquor was for his visit. The only problem was that he was caught at one of the liquor stores located in a rest area, on the on the southbound side of highway, so leaving the state! Hypocrisy, How Ironic.... ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! Trump 2024....Make America Great Again!
