6% WV sales tax, no county sales tax. Approx .5% county property tax. The big one though is 6% state income tax.

Weird, does that mean only people who own land pay taxes?

No, there are 'some' other taxes...

NH does does have a 'Room & Meals' tax of 9%, and a tax on Motor Vehicle Rentals at 9% as well. Tourism is a big part of the NH economy! Wink

We also pay a property tax (excise tax w/ annual depreciation) on Motor Vehicles to the local town w/ annual MV registration.

'Interest & Dividends' over $4800 (joint filers) are also taxed. The rate is 5%, but the majority don't pay that tax, and no return is filed unless it applies to you. Interest & Dividends on US Treasury Bills, Notes & Bonds, and US Treasury Mutual Funds are NOT taxable.

The minimum combined 2020 sales tax rate for Saint Louis, Missouri is 9.68%. This is the total of state, county and city sales tax rates. The Missouri sales tax rate is currently 4.23%. The Saint Louis sales tax rate is 5.45%.
Then there are "special taxing districts" where developers are allowed to charge even more.
In some areas it's up to about 11%
It's out of control.

It's just as bad across the Meramec river, in Arnold, MO:
Sales Tax Breakdown
District Rate
Missouri State 4.225%
Jefferson County 2.125%
Arnold 4.000%
Total 10.350%

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

7% sales tax in Indiana. I live on the Kentucky border and 6% there. Our county has a 3% innkeeper's tax in addition to sales tax but no other add-ons as far as I know.

Those shopping at Bass Pro or Cabela's will experience that.

A relative is running for local office and just posted a video on Facebook yesterday. There is a new development in Wentzville, AND as part of that they have set the tax rate higher on an existing development across the street.

- State tax: 6.50%
- County tax: 1.25%
- City tax: 1.375%
- Total tax: 9.125%

Not really a lower cost of living available in a state that most people outside the state think of as being backwards and poor, but our property taxes are quite reasonable compared to places like Virginia and Wisconsin.

Yep - 0% in Montana. We are at about 0.6% on real estate in Flathead County. Maximum State Income Tax rate is 6.9%. This kicks in at under $20,000 but Montanans are allowed to 'File Separately on the Same Form' to save a few dollars. A few cities have local option taxes.

Florida state sales tax is 6%.

Counties have the discretion of adding some, I believe the legal cap on this is 1.5%.

0.5% or 1% is pretty typical.

Couple years ago, when the county I live in (Seminole) had a 0% add-on, the idiots voted for 1%, the stated reason was to improve tourist facilities. Morons. Seminole county is on the north side of Orlando. Virtually all of the tourist draw is to the south side, known as the"attractions area," with Disney, Universal, Sea World, International Drive, etc. The 1% county tax here will accomplish nothing for tourism, and will insure that since I live within walking distance of the county line, I will make every attempt to buy whatever I need in neighboring Orange County, and spend as little as possible in Seminole.

7% (Hamilton County OH)

I've never voted for a increase, but I am this year. Cincinnati voted on an earnings tax decrease of .3% in 2019 which passed. It only goes into effect if a .8% sales tax increase passes this month. This will put $$$ in my pocket since the only things I buy local are fuel and perishables.

Depends where purchase is made 6.25% to 11% in Illinois. Do not go to the 11% Costco to make big purchases. But cars are based on where you live. So if I buy a car in Chicago, I pay my suburban county and city rate. Don't ask about hotel and rental cars.
