Gracie Allen is my personal savior! |
I'll do my best to avoid harping on a favorite conspiracy theory of mine, but... In the sense of ever running for public office again? Almost certainly. The younger Adams served in the House of Representatives for some years after his one term in the White House, but ex-Presidents have not historically run for lesser offices. In the sense of being involved in who gets nominated for and elected to office? Absolutely not - if he can pull it off. With the Clintons aging rapidly and seeming to be pretty close to being done to a turn, there's really no one else with the stature to be the Grand Old Man of the Democratic Party. He and Michelle have certainly made it clear on multiple occasions that they think they should be preeminent over the Clintons anyhow. He and Michelle are also certainly goofy (arrogant? naive? no, goofy) enough to believe that they can steer the formulation of the DNC's party program. Heck, O may even convince himself that: (1) he has a moral duty to step in and provide the Democratic party with leadership in the aftermath of all the damage done by Clinton and her associates, (2) only he can heal the breach between the party and the Bernie Youth, and (3) only he can rally the voters in the face of the utter futility of Democratic efforts in Congress. The only potential hangups are Obama's old bugbears: he's great at getting elected but he really doesn't know how to do anything else in politics, and he'd rather be aloof than directly involved. The schmoozing, the gathering in and distributing of political donations, the settling of spats in ways that bring the party together, none of that has ever really been his thing. It's still possible, and it's well within the scope of his apparent ambitions, but IMHO it's only going to happen if O and Michelle can put together a team of talented and dedicated people to take care of all that for them.

wishing we were congress |
a bit OT, from the OP:
Stacy Abrams won the DEM primary to run for GA gov https://politics.myajc.com/blo...Fk22AxvDt8KsXpGaaaK/ Abrams owes more than $50k in back taxes She owes $96k in student loan debt She owes $76k in credit card debt She graduated from Yale Law School She also said her financial experiences helped inform her "economic mobility plan" for Georgia. It would include an earned income tax credit, a family savings program, and a financial literacy effort. http://money.cnn.com/2018/04/2...rams-debt/index.html
