Victim of Life's Circumstances |
Wait up Leemur and I'll go with you. My dad's father was born in Virginia and his first and middle name was Robert Lee. I'm named after him. Fuck ESPN. They got nothing I need. Pisses me off that they are part of the Spectrum cable package but you've got to pick your battles. My wife wants the deluxe cable package so she gets it. ________________________ God spelled backwards is dog

Well, it will all be entertaining until they start trying to kill us and destroy property on a serious scale. Then it becomes game on! For the moment, its just plain silly. Please tell us this is fake news, because that is just incredible if not. More so than the original stupidity by infinity. And beyond. I'm not sure OKTC is a legit source, and apparently this is nowhere else on ESPN?? You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

Confirmed with quote from ESPN spokesman: Washington Post: https://www.google.com/amp/s/w...his-name-robert-lee/ ESPN removes Robert Lee from calling U-Va. game in Charlottesville because of his name Robert Lee lost something in Virginia — and 152 years later, another Robert Lee did too. The living Robert Lee, an ESPN broadcaster, was pulled from calling the University of Virginia home opener against William and Mary on Sept. 2 because he shares a name with the Confederate general at the center of unrest in Charlottesville. “We collectively made the decision with Robert to switch games as the tragic events in Charlottesville were unfolding, simply because of the coincidence of his name,” Derek Volner, an ESPN spokesman, told The Washington Post in an emailed statement. “In that moment it felt right to all parties. It’s a shame that this is even a topic of conversation and we regret that who calls play by play for a football game has become an issue,” he said. Volner declined to say if the network made a preemptive decision or responded to outside pressure to pull Lee from the broadcast. Lee, a sportscaster for 20 years, began his career calling games at Syracuse, his alma mater. He is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese, according to his online resume. He did not respond to a request for comment on Twitter. Volner, the ESPN spokesman, did not say if Lee was available for comment. According to Sports Illustrated’s Richard Deitsch, another ESPN representative said the company did not “mandate Robert Lee change his assignment” and that Lee was “more comfortable” not doing it. Clay Travis of Outkick the Coverage broke the story. White nationalists, neo-Nazis and Ku Klux Klan members clashed with counterprotesters in Charlottesville earlier this month during protests against the planned removal of a Robert E. Lee statue. A counterprotester, Heather Heyer, was killed and 19 others were injured when a man allegedly linked to neo-Nazi beliefs drove his car into a crowd, according to the authorities. News of the unlikely coincidence — that Robert Lee would not, in fact, be coming to Charlottesville for a football game — gave social media users a rare chance to find glimmers of humor in an incident that sparked violence, a public affairs disaster at the White House and increasing calls to remove Confederate monuments nationwide. ***Lots more reaction and photos at the link** “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” - John Adams

Reuters, I guess trying to provide cover to MSESPN, ran this headline: https://twitter.com/Reuters/status/900407307615567872 I posted their pics in the first post in the thread, they look nothing alike, obviously. “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” - John Adams

That doesn't even make any damn sense! Doppelganger refers to someone who looks like someone else, not having the same name. WTF!

The way I heard it on the radio this morning, Lee actually went to the powers that be as ESPN first and told them he wasn't comfortable doing a broadcast in the south. That doesn't absolve ESPN of stupidity, but it sounds like it wasn't entirely their doing.

SNL isn't going to touch anything that makes liberals sound or look stupid. I highly doubt if you'll hear anything more than a 10 second mention on Weekend Update if that.
