He filed a lawsuit against the city for $10 million. It was mentioned during Kyle's criminal trial cross examination of Gaige by Kyle's attorney.

Yeah, both the city and the county, IIRC, but that went nowhere because (I think) of testimony elicited from him by the prosecutor during Rittenhaus' criminal trial.

Well I guess if he does get any money from the city, Rittenhouse has good standing to do the same? Smile

If anyone has a case that the city or other government agencies were negligent, it's Rittenhouse.
That doesn't mean I think he would or should, just that this Gaige guy is still an showing his ignorance of the real world.
I wonder who is paying the bill for his attorney since the ones that do this for a percentage aren't likely to do so without a reasonable likelihood they can collect.

The harassment continues...

Kyle Rittenhouse sued by estate of man he killed in self-defense: lawsuit of 'lies'
By Brianna Herlihy Fox News
Published August 30, 2023 3:00pm EDT

Kyle Rittenhouse is facing a lawsuit from the estate of a man Rittenhouse says he shot in self-defense during a Black Lives Matter riot in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 2020.

The estate of Joseph Rosenbaum is suing Rittenhouse, Kenosha officials, local sheriff’s departments, the City of Kenosha, the City of West Allis and several counties for "compensatory and punitive damages" for the "wrongful death" of Rosenbaum, according to a report in Texas Scorecard.

"These lawsuits are making it harder and harder for me to move on with my life," Rittenhouse told Texas Scorecard. "It is extremely difficult to go outside without fear of being harassed or assaulted because of the lies spread in these lawsuits. No one should have to continue to defend the fact that they acted in self-defense."

Rittenhouse shot Rosenbaum in 2020 during a BLM riot in Kenosha. Rittenhouse later testified in court that Rosenbaum threatened to kill him and tried to grab his gun. Rittenhouse was put on trial for the death of Rosenbaum and another man during the riot and was found not guilty in 2021.

Hours before the fatal encounter in Kenosha, Rosenbaum had been released from a local hospital after a suicide attempt, according to The Washington Post. Rosenbaum had pending charges in Wisconsin for alleged domestic abuse and jumping bail at the time of his death. In December 2002, a court in Pima County, Arizona, sentenced Rosenbaum to a decade in prison on child molestation charges. He spent just over 14 years in prison and committed dozens of disciplinary infractions, state records show. Rosenbaum had a young daughter at the time of his death.

The lawsuit filed in a federal district court in the Eastern District of Wisconsin claims Rosenbaum suffered a "wrongful death" and, as a consequence, his survivors "have suffered, and continue to suffer, significant emotional distress and harm, including but not limited to the loss of society and companionship with Rosenbaum."

Gaige Grosskreutz, a man shot in the arm by Rittenhouse during the Kenosha riots in 2020, also filed a lawsuit against Rittenhouse and Wisconsin police and officials earlier this year.

Who would give him "going away" money? Why would his lawyers even take a case this far out in left field?

They're either the same lawyers that represented Rosenbaum, in which they didn't get paid because of the Not Guilty verdict so, they're trying the civil action. Or, this is a new legal team representing the Rosenbaum's estate (can't believe he has one Roll Eyes) , and they think they can get something out of Rittenhouse.

The court better understand the gravity of this decision. If they allow the criminals that attacked KR and pointed weapons at him to be successful in a suit due to the results of his legal self defense, we are all in trouble.

Every criminal who has ever received a beat down from someone who wasn't bowing to their evil intent is going to file a suit. That means the American citizen faces a bad choice. You either have to allow a criminal to do whatever they want to you, or risk being sued if you defend yourself. Conversely if you are a criminal, you have been handed the keys to the kingdom as even if you lose, you can still win big time.

Rittenhouse showed remarkable restraint considering the circumstances. Grosskreutz tried to kill Rittenhouse when he saw him down with a jammed gun. Even after his bicep evaporated, Grosskreutz still had the pistol in his hand and didn't drop it. The twerp should have gotten another 3-4 rounds center of mass for his trouble.

Many states are passing laws that limit or deny the ability to file a civil suit against a person who is deemed to have been justified in self defense. Stand your ground laws in most states make it harder for a person to succeed in a civil lawsuit but usually does not prevent the lawsuit from being filed and defended.

O.J. Simpson was found not guilty by a jury, and was later successfully sued for wrongful death. This tactic is nothing new.

So the way to deal with that is claim the reverse. The true victim who had to defend his life just claims in court he attacked the miscreant first. Ergo the miscreant was wrongfully defending against the victim!
