The day after New Years, my cousin was shot twice in his house by another cousin. My cousin Russ was 72 and was the stalwart for the family. I was not involved with my family as I moved away when I was young. Another cousin who shot him was schizophrenic and had been accusing family members that they were hiding his dead mother and snapped apparently. He shot Russ twice in the chest and Russ was killed instantly. I don't have all of the details but Russ's wife had gone upstairs and heard two gun shots and my name sake - yep same name as me, was running out the door as she came down stairs. He hasn't been caught yet but I suspect that won't matter in the end and he will probably take his own life.Having been in the military I have seen my share of violence but this hits far to close to home. Russ was a great person to everyone he met and helped many family members over the years. Now to figure out how to deal with this. As I always say, I don't post a lot on here but spend several sessions a day on the forum and I wanted to share this.

Thanks very much guys. It's times like this that we see how quickly life is taken and why we should make sure every day we are thankful for this life and enjoy our time here more.

My condolences and my prayers on the loss of your cousin. I'm sorry. I wish there was a way to bring people back when stupid, irrational things happen.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Jesus, what a terrible start to the year. I am so sorry for not only the loss but the manner of it.

I sincerely hope and pray all will, someday, be able to move past this.
