He's not asking about blue or gold stars. He's asking about large five point stars some people have over their garage doors or on the eave of their house.

I've seen them much more often back east, but they've been popping up around here lately.

They are used to hide bolt heads sometimes of large tie rods in brick buildings.

My wife calls that stuff "americana". Or something like that. Old style farm stuff, salt box houses, little ravens, deep red checker board stuff. She went through a phase. Now its "beachy". Yay for me.

You've already heard about the Texas thing (I swear a third of the homes on my block have them).

I've been told that back east it was considered something of a good luck hex to put a star on your barn. Apparently it keeps the bogeyman from creeping in and turning the milk in the cows sour or making the animals sick.
