The cake is a lie! |
You should try it with just water first so you get to taste the flavor of the rice on it's own.

Nismo - Funny you say that Sir as that was what my wife said five minutes after this batch started cooking so we have another two cup batch soaking right now that will be cooked in water only. She said that we need to “savor” the real flavor of Jasmine rice without the added chicken broth flavor. Another tasting to come in about two hours (I am full from the two bowls I had of the first batch).

Wow, at that price, that's amazing! My rice cooker was 8x that cost and I can't imagine it tastes 8x as good or even twice as good. Seems like a great value unit. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

I got a White Tiger brand rice cooker given to me to try. I made a batch of Jasmine rice in it the other day. Sticky and gummy was the result. I used one cup rice and one and one half cup chicken broth which was the recommended ratio on the bag of rice. I was using the rice in a sauce for stuffed peppers so it worked out. But if it was for a rice bowl or as a side dish to chow mein or something I would have had to throw it out. "Fixed fortifications are monuments to mans stupidity" - George S. Patton

Maybe try a 1:1 ratio next time. I've always used 1:1 with Jasmine.

I think you'll be quite pleased with the Aroma. As noted on page 1, I bought a Aroma ARC-616SB 12 cup rice cooker back in 2014 and it has been bulletproof. Certifiable member of the gun toting, septuagenarian, bucket list workin', crazed retiree, bald is beautiful club! USN (RET), COTEP #192

^^^ Thank you! I will order some now. I went ahead and just cancelled the Wal-mart order and ordered one similar from Amazon. Also found the rice on Amazon and will deliver the same day as the cooker...

I received my new Zojirushi and just got it all washed out. Ready to try it out. I've purchased some white and brown rice, Basmati & Jasmine rice, etc. What is the best way to store these rices? Should I keep in the freezer just in case there are any little "visitors" lurking in the rice? Should uncooked rice be stored in airtight containers, or the freezer, big mason jars, etc??? Any other tips are most welcome. Thanks. .

I have one like this, but only 4 cups. Cheap and works - bought it 8 years ago. Very simple to use and cooks perfectly every time.

If it's available to you, for domestic / CA grown Japanese style rice (short grain, sticky), I've come to prefer Tamaki Gold or Tamanishiki. Look for koshihikari cultivar. I generally have local access to rice shipped from Japan but when unavailable, I'll fall back to these two brands. There are other good / better cultivars (from Japan) but koshihikari is pretty good and readily available here. YMMV. "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." Don't put it in the freezer, that's a good way to get moisture in it and spoil. Rice will absorb moisture like a desiccant. Just get whatever jar or ziplock and you will be fine. I buy jasmine rice by the 20-50lb bags since that's what we eat the most, and use a container with an 0-ring lid that's made for dog food, and keeps just fine. We have other rice like sushi and other short grain in much less quantities and they are in various mason jars and clear tupperware style containers with the push button seals at the top. They all work fine.

You want a container that's sealed enough to keep moisture out and any pests. Keep it in your pantry. I've got a large multi-gallon Tupperware container that's at least 30-years old Ive kept my rice in. I'm sure there's various options from Rubbermade, Starlite, Oxo and other plastic/rubber companies. You can also use one of those 5-gallon buckets that every hardware store sells, the lid might be a pain in the ass but, if that's all you have it'll work.

Received my rice cooker and the sticky rice today and made my first cup of rice. It turned out perfect and was so easy to do. I look forward to trying other kinds of rice.

Thanks. BTW there is another lid available for the plastic 5 gallon buckets. It snaps onto a 5 gallon bucket but has an inner lid, with gasket, that unscrews. Google “Gamma Seal 5 gallon bucket lid”. Fits 3 gallon up to 7 gallon plastic buckets. Buy them all over the place. I’ve got a few of those around. For food I’d buy a food grade bucket or just a large Mylar bag would be fine. https://youtu.be/2Qu1Mgs1Mx4?si=8ToyL00cE3o7T4mk .

Gamma is the company that makes the dog food container that I mentioned above and use for my rice. Same lid and everything. It's food grade enough for me. I'm not dead yet. https://www.amazon.com/Vittles...r/dp/B0002H3S5K?th=1

^^^^ Nismo ^^^^ Thanks for sharing that. I like the idea that it can fit on a counter top, and with the angled lid opening it can easily be scooped out. I'll look at one of those. .
