About twice a year, unannounced and out of the blue, my little feathery friend stops by and hangs out for a couple hours. No rhyme or reason w/ his/her timing. He did take interest in Gunther the Weinerhund while Gunther was on his patrol through the backyard.

I am pretty sure it is a Peregrine Falcon but, not 100% sure. Whatever breed of falcon he/she is it is always nice to see them visit. [IMG:left] [/IMG]

If it’s a welcome visitor:
Meat!
Mice, rats, any sort of vermin, ground beef/turkey… they like that stuff

If it’s an unwelcome visitor:
It’s common knowledge that they don’t like it when you sing show tunes to them.
Just hop out in the yard and break out in loud song. They’ll leave.

Ha!! Well, the video of the show tunes isn’t going to happen. But, yes he/she is more than welcome to stop by. I think he/she likes to come over and see what’s on the raptor meat bar via my bird feeders. Or contemplate the mathematics of the Monte Python air speed to weight ratio w/ our Weinerhund.

It's funny that you mention dogs+birds. Clark has a fascination with birds of a certain size, and comport. He is especially enamored of a red-shouldered hawk that comes by occasionally, taking a pigeoon or other songbird from around the birdfeeder. The bird also appears to be interested in him, they gaze at each other for long intervals. Clark is not at all interested in the crows or others of size we see, but you just get the feeling watching him and the hawk that they feel some sort of bond.

A bird identification app I have says it is a “Cooper’s Hawk.”

I’m kinda neutral on hawks, yes I know they’re protected by law.

I have bluebirds that just got done nesting, enjoy a few wild turkeys around. There are very few rabbits, some would say good.

I realize the ground scavengers play a part also, coons, possum, fox. In my experience, a Cooper hawk family is tough on other birds, babies & various critters.

When the turkeys start out with 12 chicks, they’re often down to 3 in a few weeks. There used to be a Cooper’s hawk family in a tree out front.

We have a Coopers Hawk who likes to hang out on the porch while searching for food. He always gives us the stink eye but rarely flies away
