Don’t drop a fork in the thing while it’s on.. I did that to my parents when I was a teen trying to make a milk shake, went to push some ice cream down a little bit and the fork slipped out from my hand and into the blender where it shot out of the side like a bullet and left one hell of a nasty gash in the drywall a couple feet away.
I was pretty happy it didn’t fly out in my direction. Probably 12 or 15 years ago and they still bitch about it whenever I’m over and they use the damn thing

FYI, our Vitamix also does a fine job of blending rolled oats and many other nonmetallic ingredients into delicious smoothies. Big Grin
BTW, all you about to be new owners are welcome to meet over at our place for a blend fest. Smile

Well I got some brownie points with the wife. We have one that she uses every single morning. Turns out she was just eyeing this one at Costco last week but couldn't justify it since ours is still going strong. Now she and the daughter are happy. Thanks for the post.

Blend fest sounds good next time in the neighborhood. Smile

In the meantime, how about a recipe to start the Vitamix experience?

I'm going to make some blended margarita's to start (need to go buy some Bone Daddy mix). But that's too easy and basic.

There are tons of demonstrations and recipes on YouTube.

Our oatmeal smoothie contains 1/2 cup oatmeal blended dry first then we add blueberries, bananas and hide some greens like spinach or kale in it along with a fresh or frozen banana and enough soy or almond milk to adjust the viscosity. Have fun.

One thing to remember with these puppies is that the in many recipes the order that the ingredients are added is crucial.

Add the ingredients in the wrong order and they can come out pretty funky texture wise.

Just saw where ours was delivered today. Can’t wait to make a smoothie in it when I get home.

We got ours yesterday and used it. I think it's broken. It makes big grinding sounds and then I think it is not spinning but the motor is running. This was in a paste of frozen'ish bananas.

We have the Professional 750 model but I am presuming design is similar.
Look at the base and there should be a plastic/rubber bump in the center with a toothed gear or sprocket in it that the sprocket on the underside of the pitcher sits in.
Pull that out of the base and reinsert it make sure it fully lined up and seated.

I knocked the base over once and the part came unseated and caused the issue like you describe.
I called Vitamix and that is what they had me check and it fixed the issue.
Hopefully yours came dislodged in shipping and not a bad refurb.

Ours arrived yesterday as well. Very happy so far. I made a spinach fruit smoothie and added about twice the spinach I normally do to test how well it handles it. Blended perfect. I didn't hit max speed but at around 7 or so I liked the creamy texture that it created.

That's the truth, we were adding ingredients wrong for awhile and thought our's was messed up.

I respectfully disagree here. My work invested in several vitamix blenders years ago as part of a health program. I used them almost daily for green shakes. I decided I wanted to have the option at home as well but was too cheap to invest in a vitamix and bought a ninja instead. That ninja was nowhere in the same ballpark as a vitamix.
After doing more research, I found out about blendtec. Less cost but all the power and quality of a vitamix.

Just got mine today and I think there’s something wrong with mine as well. So far, I only ran a cleaning cycle and it was great to about speed 7. Above that, it inspired the same amount of confidence as driving a GM vehicle at speed down a rough road. It was making a high pitched, rattling type sound at speeds 8-10.

I don’t there’s many recipes that require such high speed so I’m not going to stress over it.

On a good note, I’ll be making guacamole with it a little later (recipe only calls for speed 3).

Cleaning cycle means putting water in it and a few drops of dish soap and letting it run for a minute. Then rinse.

For you guys having isssue I’d absolutely call Vitamix. It has a 3 year manufacturer warranty, see what they have to say.
