They are bar's , pure and simple.
club this,club that, club,club,club,

you go there to get stupid and maybe get laid.

call it what it is , a bar.

calling it a "club" does Not make you special, to anyone but you .

Four of us old geezer's were sitting around , the subject of our drinking days ( bar hopping) came around.

between the four of us, we could not come up with a single thing that would be considered
wonderful, while at the bars, nor after we had a few drinks.

16 years of going to the bars (for all of us put together) and not one damn thing came to mind that was any where near spectacular.

Maybe we were doing it wrong, perhaps the stupidest thing I did , in all my years.

what a freaking waste.

Guess that means the closely related but altogether different “jiggle joint” is no longer fashionable.

You were most definitely doing it wrong. When I get together with my buddies we can laugh our asses off until the wee hours rehashing the stories of our early 20's in the bars (drinks, maybe a pool table) and the club's (drinks, dj, dance floor, loud ass music, shit tons of women).

You were Doing It Wrong.

There was a time, for example, three or four of us guys hooked up with a group of Catholic girls that mostly had been friends since at least high school and were almost all either nurses or in nursing school. They loved to find new bands at bars and go dancing. It was pretty much a 2:1 ratio, those girls to us guys. It was a great time.

Then there was the time I went drinking with a buddy, a (girl) friend with benefits showed up, joined us for a couple drinks, then said to me "Let's go," and...

Just two of the many fun going-to-the-bar stories I could tell. Ah, good times, good times... Smile

Well, there was this time when my fiancé asked me to meet her after work at a fancy schmany place for happy hour for dinner and a drink.

I showed up and could not find her. This was before cell phones so I just kept looking for her. I'd walk around and look at everyone.

Finally, after about 45 minutes I was getting worried when a mighty fine looking blonde woman walked up and sat down next to me and poked me in the arm.

My brunette fiancé had on a blonde wig!

I was sort of in the dog house but not!

She said she was thrilled I did not look at the other women, flirt or try to hit on any, as she had been sitting in the corner watching me ever since I walked in.

She was a bit miffed that I did not recognize her face, but in my defense the place was not well lit.

It was goooooood that night as she was happy I had "passed the test".

Bars and clubs are pretty different in my opinion.

Bars are more of sit down order a drink, watch the large TV, jukebox music type of place.

Clubs are the dance, VIP area, bottle service, live DJ with loud music type of place.

Hell, I still do it but it is considered a bar or tavern. At least the places I go to.
I usually have a great time and I'll meet some friends to listen to local bands.
No real "clubs" around me that play dance music and have lights flashing. That type of stuff. I wouldn't go to one anyways.

I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not.

well "In my day"

Clubs were someplace to go for a meal and supper.
you paid $1,200.00 a year .
got a monthly news letter of up coming
events ( usually four a month)

and no denim , collars were mandatory and
they often gave you your own shelf for the booze you brought in or a place on the wine rack.

Dancing three nights a week , and there was a guy in the potty that offered you a towel or some other junk.

some were at a golf course , some were lake side some were charity affiliated like the elks, others had religious connections ,like the Moose

I think the difference, at least in my state, is a result of Blue laws.

I'd have to look it up to recall the specifics, but something like a place that sells alcohol AND food is a bar and anyone can come in, but a place that ONLY sells alcohol is a "club" that requires membership and some method of tracking everyone that comes in.

It is loosely interpreted, but that's the general gist in NC. Maybe someone who works that stuff or has the motivation to read it can chime in and clarify.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

I used to hate the blue laws when I lived in Dallas. One side of the street you could order a drink with your meal, and the other side of the street you had to join a friggin' club to be able to order a drink with your meal. I had a stack of club cards from all of the $1 clubs I had joined. Since I moved away 20 years ago, I heard they banded together and merged a lot of clubs so people didn't have to carry a stack in their wallet or glove box.

Charging a one-time $1 fee didn't put a dent in alcoholism or drunk driving. Dumb ass feel good measure from the "we have to do something" crowd.

Sound like your referring to a Country Club with private membership and possibly a golf course.

Sort of, but where I grew up (Upper Midwest like where Bendable current resides) they were called dinner clubs. It was a restaurant and bar only as there was no golf course, tennis courts, etc. like a country club.

That's sad. I had a blast in my 20's/30's clubbing/bar hopping but then I wasn't in the U.S. and that scene was much different over there compared to the U.S..

So bendable, are you saying you spent a total of 4 years in bars, or for 4 years you would go to bars sometimes? Wink
