In my post on IFAK's, I should have spoken a little about my mindset for awareness.

Hope that I made some level of sense.

Good point, and I certainly made the same mistake of discussing equipment instead of readiness... the purpose of this thread as Para reminded us yet again! Since I tend to live in a constant state of readiness, or so I believe myself to be, it's hard for me to think about anything else than the equipment that goes along with it, and THERE is where I find myself lulled into a dangerous place!

While my equipment and ammo may be ready, am *I* truly ready like I think I am??? I seem to believe I live in a state of constant preparedness, well, as good as my feeble body will allow these days, and I THINK I'm always alert when out in public, but after reading Para's admonishment above, I started thinking back over the past few weeks and how I handled myself in public, and my home defense routine. Looking back on how I used to be vs. now, I've slipped! I've gotten lax in my alertness levels while dining out, shopping, going to the bank, or any other of dozens of scenarios where I put myself, and often my family too in a position to be a target for scum!

Simply, I've gotten complacent and let my guard down, here at a point in time where violence inside the US of A is escalating daily towards those like myself who value God, morals, family values and freedom from government interference and oppression! And as mid-term elections loom this November, it's going to get worse... MUCH worse; at least that's what my gut is telling me. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so. Now is NOT the time for any of us to become complacent, out in public or at home!!!

Suck it up cupcakes! Sharpen your minds, your edged weapons (you DO have some, don't you?), and clean those rifles. Be prepared so that YOU are not the one caught off-guard!!! (Yes, I said "cupcakes", and I'm calling myself that also... Razz )

Yesterday, I was driving with my wife and 5 year old. I saw a SUV at the red light with 2 bumper stickers on it. I said, "Honey, can you see that bumper sticker, on the right?" She read it. "Not My President". I then asked her to read the one on the left. "This Machine Kills Fascists".
I said "They mean it. We need to start believing them".

Today, we both clean our rifles and stop making excuses for not training and carrying.

Be safe.

Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with." -Douglas Adams

Purchased the third 12x20x3/8” AR500 steel silhouette for my pistol range I am building on my property, I already have 6 8” plates. I am clearing a small “flood plain” that ends with a steep bank at the rear of my property and will have up to 20 yards to targets. This will be a convenient place for my daughter and me to shoot and run drills.

Just another day in paradise.

Today, on the 4th of July I ran some drills. It was nothing special, a few rounds out of the carbine and a transition to side arm or clearance drill.

I came home and cleaned my rifle. I also ordered a new BCG for a build, earlier this week I ordered a GWACS lower for a WWSD built.

Also earlier this week, when I bought ammo for today, I got extra, extra to stockpile with what I have. After I cleaned my rifle, I looked at rifle plates, I'm still deciding on what to get.

As the day winds to an end, Im watching the fireworks off in the distance, and thinking that I hope that I never need my clean rifle, but if I do, I'm ready.

Long live America! Long live Freedom!

You are so lucky to live in UT! I don't dare talk guns around here, if I did, we'd get burglarized.

I just posted this in the Trump presidency thread: a 16 year old kid had his MAGA hat torn off his head and a drink thrown in his face as he sat in a burger joint with friends. The public hostility and threat of violence is spreading now from political figures to Trump supporters. There are so many ways we can be identified, beyond hats or tee shirts, that it is increasingly important to maintain an alert mental state.

I never leave the house without my "friend" tucked IWB. I have no bumper stickers, nor does my wife on her car.

I choose to remain as anonymous as possible, but I will defend myself and our property to the fullest extent.

I also will take no shit from some asshole(s) out in public. Don't look for it, but . . .

Exactly the same here! Nothing on any of my cars to identify my political leaning or me as a gun owner, nor do I typically wear clothing of such manner as I wish to remain as "invisible" as possible. I'm ALWAYS packing something though just in case something comes looking for me anyway and I cannot get away!

I've taken more classes this spring/summer than I did in the last 10 years; Lucky to have Rob Tackett here local and accessible.

Getting the body back up to speed with my mind is a chore, but I'm working on it.

You can add me to this list as well. In public, I'm just another harmless old fart that doesn't provoke controversy. Basically invisible. We live in a mostly crime free area but that could change rather quickly in this day and age. I have enough ammo to start a war, the pantry is full and my wife and I know how to survive most threats.

As a side note, I cleaned my AR the other day, just because. I haven't fired it in about 6 months and it didn't need it but it was nice to do it anyway.

Jim

Invisible is the way to go. No stickers, no NRA hats, no MAGA hats, just stay in the background. We regularly get reports of cars vandalized due to political stickers here, and I don't think I've EVER heard of one being messed up over liberal stickers. Just like you never hear of work boots being stolen.

During the Ferguson Riots, I put a big Bail Bondsman placards in the front and back window of my car. Strangely, when a bunch of our patrol and personal cars were vandalized on the department parking lot (huge mobs showing up to try and force us to release those who were arrested), mine was not touched.

It was a trick I learned from some relatives in New Orleans. They said that some of the bail bondsman there could walk through the worst projects there and not be touched. No body wants to mess with the guy or gal who can get you out of jail.

Last weekend I took a GORUCK night event on urban survival and movement. Topics were first aid, survival techniques, night navigation and movement, making improvised gas mask, and others. Very good class and really fun.

My wife and I have set our Summer training schedule for the next two months.
Each session will be with a different weapon combination and drills.

Most of what we are doing is keeping our minds sharp and muscle memory at a high level.

One of the drills involves getting out of the car, arming up, and firing, if the drill calls for it.

I am 20 miles from Berkeley, CA. The bay area is full of these "love and peace" liberals who will tear into you or damage your car if they think you are not one of them.

The hypocrisy is strong with them, they are just waiting for an excuse. Knowing how they think is half of the battle, so I try to be mentally prepared.

I realized two weeks ago that I've let my awareness slip.

I'm a car guy, sort of, quickly recognizing in traffic the vehicles that belong to friends, coworkers, or others I know.

One afternoon I got a text from someone I know saying, "Nice blue shirt. Good haircut, too!" And though it was funny, I realized I had absolutely not seen her car. She'd been close enough to see my shirt clearly, and I had no idea she'd been in the area.

I've let my "easy guard" down... time to pull it and the "hard guard" back into shape.

God bless America.

While attempting to go to sleep last night, my thoughts drifted to this thread, and an area that I really haven't seen addressed, and one that I personally need to work on much more myself. It falls in somewhere in between the title of the thread, which as Para has already is not the intent of the thread, and the post that 'vthoky' just made regarding awareness which IS the primary purpose... and that is the general handling/deployment of your weapon! I'm not sure what else to call it, so that's the term I'll use for now, and what I need to really practice on. Let me explain... especially regarding my AR-15.

I personally KEEP my guns clean, particularly the AR, and I practice on the range enough that I consider myself a well above average shot, so I can quickly acquire and hit my targets with ease. But... it's what comes in between where I tend to fumble a bit, and in a real-life SHTF situation, it could cost me dearly, and that's general handling!

With my SIG-Sauer handguns, I've owned, handled and shot Sigs for so long they're second nature to me, so no issues there. With the AR however, I cannot whip it out of the safe and manipulate everything about it without pausing and thinking about stuff first. Very little comes 100% natural and automatic to me without at least some thought first, and that wastes time, which could be deadly when seconds are critical. So what I PERSONALLY need to do is sit around and just practice manipulating the rifle itself! Load and drop mags, chamber rounds (dummy rounds please), clear (fake) jams, activate the red-dot sight with minimum wasted time and not having to look at which brightness setting I chose, etc.

Right now, almost none of this stuff comes "natural" to me, and I have to look or feel for the buttons, stop and think about what I'm doing, or any assortment of things that slow me down in deploying my weapon. This should change immediately as times are changing as libtards are devolving and getting more violent by the day, and one day I may actually need to use this thing (God forbid)!

Just my thoughts on the subject...
