You can get Skyview Satellite app, for your phone. It's a miracle we can still see the moon. There are thousands of satellites up there, and at least that many rocket boosters. The app allows you to find them, even though you can't see most of them without a telescope.

Just saw them in northern VA. Barely. My son lent me his glasses and I could see a few moving in a line. He said he saw dozens. Oh well, I had LASIK 19 years ago and while still almost 20/20, not at night time. Clouds for the next week but I'll have my spotting scope next time when not cloudy.

I had to check to see if this was an older April Fools Day post. That doesn't look like a string of satellites. It looks like the way a strobe light on an aircraft shows up on a timed photo. If that were actually a photo of satellites taken at night, it would have showed up as a solid line on a timed photo. You would need an extremely, ultra fast lens to get something as dim as a satellite to show up as a dot on a night sky photo. Lens that fast are very, very, very expensive. This is a photo I took in the Mojave Desert at night with a cheap, old, digital compact camera I set for about a 10 second exposure and high ISO and set on the roof of my SUV. The sky was filled with planes that night and they show up as a string of dots in pictures as the plane travels along with its strobe light on and the camera's shutter is open. A string of satellites? There may be a string of satellites up there. But that isn't a picture of them IMHO. _____________ "I enter a swamp as a sacred place—a sanctum sanctorum. Using a telescope and long exposures with a camera or CCD you can see them in your images. They leave what looks like star trails in your images. I hate that MF’er.

there are almost a half dozen companies that plan to do mega-constellations of satellites over the next 10 years astronomers at the Chilean observatory have said that when that happens, fully 1/3 of the night sky will be rendered useless for scientific astronomy due to the images being wiped out by the light trails its an abomination to science to do this and as much as I am a supporter of Musk and his efforts to get to the moon and Mars, I think what he has done is disgusting he claims he's working on a fix to add a coating that will reduce the surface reflections, yet he continues to launch un-coated satellites which simply makes the problem worse I was actually rooting for a launch failure last week

Man, somebody needs to blast that shit out of the sky.

AIAA wrote an article and an image frame last last month with 17 different streaks that filled the entire photographic frame and the response from SpaceX was that with image processing software it should be easy to photoshop the streaks out of the image yeah, except if one of those streaks happened to be hiding an earth crossing asteroid... here is what comet ATLAS looked like... Muskrat hadn't thought this out very well and its clear from his responses that he's given the astronomy community the middle finger its not often I root for a rocket to blow up at launch but when I see a Starlink launch posted, I just grit my teeth and know that Musk is doing everything he can to ruin earth based telescopic astronomy

Doesn't that guy know any women? He needs to get laid, and stop thinking himself to be the God of Technology. Freakin' con man. Die in a plane crash or something, and do it soon.

Interesting enough was looking at the Moon and Venus last night just as the sun went down, great view of both. I have the Skyview lite app which is free, worth it if you want to know the star, planet, you're looking at, or constellation..This message has been edited. Last edited by: HRK,

Starlink Train from the Bernese Alps: https://www.liveleak.com/view?t=uLiuv_1587714123 ************************* Chaos, panic and disorder. My work here is done........ Saw them a few days ago. Here in North Central Montana looking north west. They then traveled eastward until out of sight. Easily seen with binos. VERY strange looking.

Just saw them about 45 minutes ago. Neat. I’m curious where their final orbits will place them. ________________________________________ -- Fear is the mind-killer. If that line of dots in the liveleak video are satellites, I don't understand why they are so close together and why they appear to be in the same orbit. _____________ "I enter a swamp as a sacred place—a sanctum sanctorum. There is the strength—the marrow of Nature." - Henry David Thoreau

when launched and then put into orbit they form a train of dots that you can see individually they are then programmed to separate out into slightly different orbits the goal is to make a fine mesh of satellites that cover the entire sphere he is only a few hundred satellites into his goal of 12,000
