DuroMax XP10000E 10,000W dual fuel, electric start generator for sale on slick deals for $485 w/ free shipping. Home depot sells these for $1200, occasionally you will catch a sale for $1000. I have been researching generators for months, since Irma convinced me that I needed a bigger one. I ditched the pair of Honda EU2000 and rolled some of the proceeds into this.

That sounds like a pretty strong deal. Was there anything besides output that drove you away from the Hondas. Niech Zyje P-220 Steve

Where do you find these bargains! Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

I was incredibly happy with the Honda EU2000 generators! I used them individually and paired during hurricane Irma. I simply decided that I wanted a generator larger to wire through a transfer switch. I wholly recommend the EU series generators. I simply didn't use them enough to justify the cost per watt.

Not as lean, not as mean, Still a Marine |
Just be aware that its 10k peak output, max constant is is 8k. Still sufficient for most whole house backup needs, but not what most would consider to be a "true" 10k generator. That said, that outs a smoking price! That's less than I paid for my Generac 5500. I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

Apples and oranges. I sold, installed, and serviced generators for years, hundreds of standby, and almost 100 portables. Generac is in top three of all manufacturers. I never loose power, but I might consider buying this just for the off chance I need one, someday. Being an electrician, the interlock, breaker, cord, and inlet box costs me about $200. As for the 8kw v 10kw. This is a huge difference in parts cost. For me at cost plus 5% buddy deal at supply house, it's still 70% more expensive for larger inlet, cable, breaker, and interlock. The difference in power output from 8-10 isn't worth the extra install costs. Edit*** Looked up some reviews on Amazon. This model not reviewed, but others had way too high percentage of 1 star reviews with DOA reviews. Even at $500 and with no actual need for one, not going to roll the dice. That rug really tied the room together. |
That thing would absolutely suck to keep fueled. I am in the camp that prefers a smaller generator, and cutting circuits to critical ones, to save on fuel. That generator probably cost $50-100 a day to run. ______________________________________________________ Often times a very small man can cast a very large shadow

Staring back from the abyss |
The REALLY BIG plus with the Honda EU2000s is the noise factor. I've got a large dual-fuel jobber that I can plug into the house and it works great for the power but the damn thing is so loud I hate to fire it up. It's much more pleasant to use the quiet little Honda. I bought an L5-L14 adaptor and can plug it right into the house. It won't run everything at once, but it'll keep the food cold and the lights and TV going just fine. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Bubba - This is the exact reason I sold my 10k units five years ago and purchased a 3800/4500 watt Black Max unit. After a storm that left our area without power I was burning close to a gallon an hour.....Now that is reduced to 10 hrs on 4 gallons with the smaller unit....Do not mind the inconvience and sacrifice as compared to chasing down fuel when everyone else is also looking for that same available fuel.....Mark
